Interesting study that shows overall NBA success is pretty even, no matter when you leave for college. 2 and done players have actually had the most success. And that international players are far more likely to be a bust. At least since 2006 (when the OAD rule went into effect).

In general the right time for a player to go pro is when he has demonstrated that he has the talent to play in the NBA. The NCAA doesn't do a better job of developing talent, but it may be a better place for a guy that isn't mature enough to handle everything that comes with being a professional. Emphasis on the word "may."

Interesting read. I think it's hard to evaluate because if a player has left early a lot of times it isn't because they are NBA ready it's because they have potential, whereas for a player to stay four years and then make it in to the NBA with the bias against that they are more likely to be NBA ready or ready to fill a specific role right away. If they are an older 4 year player it becomes more likely they never reach the NBA if they are still a project.
