View Full Version : Steph Curry right now is the Lionel Messi of basketball

Never thought I'd see an analog in basketball. Obviously not as accomplished and consistently dominant but at the moment Curry reminds me of Messi.
Obligatory (http://d31lhw9jl22o65.cloudfront.net/soundboards/rayhudson/03magesterial.mp3)
I mean more in playstyle than greatness. I realize that Curry is getting overrated on ISH and in hindsight the thread title isn't worded well to reflect what I meant.

Messi = Lebron
He's only good on a Superteam (Barcelona).
Ya I want to see Curry get out of that shithole and play for a good team too. He's wasting his talent on that team of scrubs.

Maybe Suarez, Neymar doesnt sniff their level. But no, injury isnt being overtaken. When he returns he will still be the best in the world.
Curry doesn't sniff Messis level. Messi is GOAT Curry not even top 50 yet.

Probably.. Suarez makes the big goals.
Messi is top 5 all time, Curry will set down top 25 range.
Except Messi never lost his ballon d'or to / got carried to championship / outperformed by Iniesta or Suarez or Turan or Rakitic or Vidal or Bravo or Neymar or Alba or something on the biggest stage.... a stage where he played against the true best individual player/talent in the world (Ronaldo) who despite playing without Bale/Benzema/Rodriguez/Kroos scored more goals than anybody in history on him....

Until Curry plays against healthy teams in the playoffs and doesn't get owned by a no-name bench player in the finals I don't want to see him get compared to other sporting greats like Messi.
Curry is more like Eli Manning or something, without the clutch play in the championship of course.

Ive been saying Suarez is the 3rd best player in the world since his Liverpool mega season. He's incredible and only slightly below a healthy Ronaldo/Messi level
Although Lewandowski is my favorite player (Im Polish) and he has been the worlds best striker this season.
Messi is a top 1-3 GOAT. Had he beat Germany last year it would of been a wrap. Hes about to get his 5th Balloon Do'or.

Iniesta might have outperformed Messi in some games for sure, but Suarez has never done that. You could name Xavi for instance, who could also have outperformed Messi sometimes.
Ronaldo played against Messi in 2009
You're right. For Manchester United. I believe he won his first balloon door that season too. My mistake
Edit: sure he had. 2nd game vs Munich last year in champions league. The away game vs PSG. Champions league final you can argue too. Suarez is an animal.

Messi is arguably the GOAT....in a sport which has been popular for over 100 years and a global obsession for not much less than that span.
Messi = Jordan status.

Apparently Curry is already GOAT because he played 4 injured teams in the playoffs and has had 4 good games to start out the 2016 regular season.
That's all it takes anymore. :sleeping

Messi had a sour stretch in big games from 2012-2014. Barcelona overall has been a more greatly constructed and functional team than Ronaldo's ones. Iniesta may have been the MOTM of just about every CL KO Match last year besides the SF 1st leg. He was the MOTM in the final, and he bossed the 2009 Final with Xavi (MOTM), so they did square off in a UCL final once, by the way. Ronaldo and Madrid were steamrolling last year, Barca were quite fortunate the injury wave hit them. Its continuing this year, the difference is Navas, lets hope they're healthy in the latter stages of the CL.
Messi could have put last years World Cup away but missed a huge chance.
Suarez elevated to top 3 for me last year. Monster player. And Modric (Avatar) is greatly underrated. His calmness and instincts are legendary.

Yes , he's best basketball player at now . I don't watch soccer for past two years but Guardiola's Barca best team in soccer history. Maybe "Cruyff and Neskeens"s Ajax close them .

Just tried to make it a quick hypothetical equivalent to something of Lebron/Curry - GSW/Cavs situation last year.... but its impossible, hence the "something like that"....
There is nothing in football ("soccer") that is even close to equivalent to what is going on or to the players, lets just say the only guy equivalent to Messi today is Lebron.... could just create a hypothetical fantasy scenario... something like:
Barcelona would be GSW thats for sure (most stacked team) but Aguero/Ibrahimovic/Robben (thats Curry's equivalent i think) is playing instead of Messi/Ronaldo (Lebron) there and Messi/Ronaldo is playing instead for like.... eh.. CSKA Moscow (Cavs) or something worse than that with half the roster injured.... despite that Messi (or Ronaldo) ((lebron)) carries that team all the way to the very last stage, makes individual history there and almost wins it.... but loses.... meanwhile Aguero/Ibrahimovic/Robben (Curry) gets outperformed/underperforms individually and loses the Ballon Do'r to like Iniesta or something....
lol, get what im trying to say?
The 2015 finals left you real salty. Look I get it. Curry didn't have the best series and the Cavs were injured. Move beyond just looking at that series.

Messi isn't playing at the level he was at 09-12 anymore while Curry is at his peak. I don't think it's a good analogy.

Not salty :confusedshrug: Always loved Curry's game, its a pure shooter thing.... i just tried to give a "soccer"-nba equivalent situation here in terms of teams/players/talent when comparing Curry-Lebron & GSW/Cavs last year (especially in Finals)....
There is just so many damn leagues in soccer aswell anyways, there is no league equivalent to "NBA" where the best of the best (players & teams play)... there is multiple NBA's...
Personally i think the Barclays Premier League is the best (has the most teams/players who are amazing), but the 2-3 teams (and best 2-3 players) are not even there are widespread throughout some leagues (thinking of Munchen/Robben etc).... its difficult to make anything something equivalent to NBA/Basketball or Lebron/Curry / GSW/Cavs....

Bale is so underrated. We talking about a LB/RB who became a prolific winger then a CAM with Real Madrid. He basically plays striker with Wales.
Single handedly gave Real Madrid Copa del Rey in 2014 without Ronaldo. Scored winning goal vs Atletico Madrid to give Madrid La Decima. :applause:
He had a great debut year no doubt (Maria was responsible for that CL goal for the most part), but he also massively disappointed last year.. fizzled out under pressure in the Juve tie, cost them the Champions League.

calling GSW the most stacked team might be ok for right now, but a couple of years ago some of their fans were booing the owner (and chris mullin as collateral damage) for the monta ellis trade. And before that they were not really a powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination.
most stacked team barca, would probably the lakers. Messi would be Kobe, playing with them since youth, but without many of the flaws and criticisms in Kobe's game. (poor efficiency, not willing to pass, selfish chucking cancer). Now guess who Kobe modeled his game on? Who am I describing? It's Jordan.

Basketball is putting a ball through a hoop with your hands. It's like tossing horseshoes. Hakeem didn't touch a basketball till he was like 15 and became an all time great. Don't think there's a major sport out there that has situations like that.

Hakeem was a soccer goalkeeper.
Most euro bigs probably played soccer growing up too, that's why they have the footwork and american bigs are stiffs with no footwork.

Messi the best scorer same with curry. Messi the best ballhandler same with curry. Messi the best passer same with curry. Both are teamplayers too. And thats why theyre winners. And lol at bran. The guy who couldnt score single coverage. As much as I love bran, he wasnt disrespected like that.

attitude wise, messi is not the same as jordan. Jordan was selfish until phil came thus the multiple first round exits. And jordan is one of the GOAT athletes while messi is one of the less athletic. He and curry are more comparable coz these 2 depends on skills and leadership skills so much to be winners.

not really.. Messi's low center of gravity is unique, he can dribble like a wizard, he has natural touch, he doesn't go down, hard to get to.. Ronaldo's is way different, good in another sense.
