LeBron has seriously been putting in work on defense. Let's see if it lasts a whole season. That intensity usually seems to die down over time for him. Too early to start talking any awards though. Too low of a sample size.

Kawhi Leonard will easily repeat. He's already schooled Melo and KD this year, and if anything has gotten even better defensively compared to last year when he won.

Kawhi

LeBron

Gobert

CLEARLY head and shoulders above right now. I imagine LeBron is going to fall off as he wont want his offensive lines to suffer because he is putting too much time and effort into D. But I didn't think he would be trying this hard at this point on that end of the floor, so we'll see. He really does want a DPoY and this might be his last shot.

Lebron has missed his chance at DPOY awards, his defensive instincts + his early years atheleticism could've netted him one but it's a little late now. He can play defense but he's not gonna waste all his energy on that end.

I see Gobert taking it home this year.

Despite the fact that leonard has won a fmvp and a dpoy, Gobert is a more impactful defender. It is Gobert's to lose

Don't sleep on Draymond Green. After being snubbed last year voters will want to make up for their mistake.

If LeBron sustains what he's done he'll definitely be in the discussion at the end of the year.

The best defense is a good offense. Steph Curry should be DPOY.

Any defensive highlights of Gobert, Draymond, LeBron, or any other DPOY candidates from this season so far? I've seen Kawhi on KD and Melo...

Leonard based on the hype he's getting. Shit like that matters.

But I can't remember the last time two wings won b2b, much less a wing repeated dpoy.

And... I looked it up. Coop in 87 and then MJ in 88 (also Robertson in 86 for three straight seasons). Last and only b2b by a non big was Moncrief in the first two years of the award (83-84).

Actually after MJ in 88, making 5 of the first 6 perimeter players, only 3 perimeter players won it in the subsequent 27 seasons. GP in 96, Ron in 04, and obviously last season.

Odds are it will be a big.

I agree the odds are it will be a big, but with 4 out basketball catching on, we could see wings make strong play for DPOY.
