Tbh... Who didn't know that? :confusedshrug:

I'll tell you one thing though... It was mostly due to effort, or better yet, lack of it... He was putting in the work on that end in his first years then as he got older, more famous and with a bigger offensive role he just stopped giving a **** many times on D, picking it up some in his peak year(s).
Chuck was short for his position/role but more than had the physical gifts in order to play good defense... But he just regressed - the effort - on that end instead of the other way around.

He was the first few years of his career, just because of his athleticism. He quickly went from good, to bad, to one of the worst in the league by the end of his career. One of the worst the league has seen actually. Most of his reputation as a bad defender was built up in houston where he just bled out points. Dirk has had a similar decline, but nobody has really noticed somehow. Too say he plays matador D anymore is an understatement of grand proportions.

Still he was better than Malone offensively, rebounding wise, passing wise, shot blocking wise or team d and much better in clutch situations. :confusedshrug:

Nope

Karl was better

85-95 was even, and then Malone killed him post 95

Everyone knows Barkley was a bad defender, but peak Barkley shits on any version of K. Malone.

This.

LOL at these 90s stans that put Barkley over Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan.. hell, I'd take Dirk Nowitzki over him still.

Everyone who saw both of them play in their primes (85-95) know Barkley was better. The rest is just for kids of today to discuss.

I saw Charles live in Philly back in 88'

Malone was simply just a better pure basketballer. He knew his limits, and played within them. Charles on the other hand, played as almost as if he were out to prove he could do anything. Case in point, his three point shooting. Versatility was his flash, but as a pure basketball player, he always fell short compared to Karl Malone. And trust me, that's no insult... It is a high compliment to be compared to arguably the greatest Power Forward of all time.

He's 6'4 guarding other team's power forward. Giving up 6-7 inches night in and night out.

He was 6'7 at the shortest.
Id take him over Malone peak vs peak. Career its hard to say because of Malones unrivaled longevity.

Barkley's height is often understated. He was 6'9 on a good day.

He was measured 6ft 4.5 ish in the okympics

HOWEVER that's useless info. Since the nba has always lied about height.

On the idea of peak vs peak. At worst, he was a below average defender, he wasn't a cancer o that end,

Offensively, he is one of the greatest ever. I think hat makes up for it

He scored more ppp on post ups than Hakeem or shaq.

I noticed it, think I may have even made a thread about it once...He is atrocious on defense....And also, now I see why Laker fans hated Jordan Hill...he's also a doormat on defense...

Philly was much different though because Charles got by on defense using his early 20s surprising athleticism. It was also a lot easier playing d in Philly because Charles was surrounded by all stars in Philly during the mid 80s.

Lol no he most certainly was not. I've stood right next to the man in an hart afield-Jackson Atlanta airport, and he was barely taller than me and I'm 6'2.
