Who was the scrubbiest before and after a single peak season where they beasted in NBA history?

This could be a guy who averaged 5/2 who went 15/8 for a single season, or it could be a 15/5 guy who dropped 25 for a season. Just the biggest discrepancy in their whole career compared to their peak season.

Well, I would really have to think about this. But in recent history..Jeremy Lin. From 2.6ppg 1.4 apg to 14.6ppg and 6.2apg the following season, that's a big jump. He's been a double figure scorer ever since.

I don't think he qualifies since he's still averaging in the ballpark of that 14/6 season, and he didn't keep up Linsanity for a full season.

10 years ago, a player named Mike James.

He was averaging 23ppg for half a season before Ray Allen came back from injury.

DRose won an MVP and has been mediocre every other year.

I am pleased to see Mike James pop up. Thats what I was going to go with.

Dumas and Mike James are both great picks.

Granger doesn't fit this but his career is one of the most statistically bizarre I've really seen. When he was scoring 25 PPG over a two-year stretch I never would've imagined with his pretty good offensive game and great shooting numbers that three years later he would barely be able to scrounge up 8 ppg. He got struck with the injury bug for sure and he was never held under 14 ppg anytime he averaged minutes in the 30s, but still just an odd career path.

Dejuan Wagner was looking good his rookie year...and then his injuries came in.

But that was due to injury and probably isn't what you are looking for...So, for healthy players....Flip Murray and Tyreke Evans.

This. Could probably throw in Flip Murray and Mike Jones as well. There was a time I felt Mo Williams belonged in this type of conversation. I guess Tyreke Evans based off his fall from grace after a 20/5/5 rookie season. Injuries to players like Rose etc doesn't count.

His progress and development was also really steady his first years in the league.

Derrick Rose went HAM in 2011, he invented that term. Mike James had a bigger jump between stats, but for Rose to go from 2nd year player to MVP was impressive af. I hate what happened to his career.

Michael Adams?

I don't think Adams was a 1 year wonder, but he had a ridiculous statline in 1 year. I guess I'll look it up as I type this :oldlol:

Wow he averaged 26.5 pts and 10.5 asts a game in 90-91 for the Nuggets. Also shot 39.4% though. Went up from 15.5 and 6.3 the year before. And the following year for the Bullets, averaged 18.1 and 7.6. So he was never able to average 20 or 8 assists for any season other than that one. I guess it must have been a tank season, I don't remember the details.

Definitely Ray Lewis. I believe he played both ways and strictly on defence during the low scoring Knicks vs Heat years. When you have an NFL defensive player of the year playing in the NBA under the 90's defensive rules... :lol

It was mainly because the Nuggets had some crazy high-paced offense, Paul Westhead was the coach. He had coached Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers at Loyola when they had a high paced game, and Gathers collapsed during a game and died.

The Nuggets scored about 120 PPG but gave up 130.

Elton Brand had plenty of 18-20 ppg seasons, but then he had one season, doing 25/10/3 on 53% :biggums:

Of course, that happened to be 06... everything extra ordinary happened there... what a terrible defensive year.

Obvious one but not mentioned so far... Tyreke Evans. Dude had a "LeBron heir apparent" rookie season and then fell off significantly enough that within 2 years we all knew he was nothing more than a career role player. Ppbly one of the most unorthodox career trajectories of all time...

He doesn't really qualify. He wasn't that much better in his rookie year than he was after, he was just expected to develop and play better and he didnt.

Jeremy Lin

He went from a unknown star to a super hyped PG just because he beat Kobe by few points at the square garden. Rocket also offered him a huge contract after that.

Jerome James. He tripled his average during Sonics playoffs then signed with the Knicks for 5 years $30M. Then arrived at Knicks training camp out of shape.
