Pop and Carisle have been doing this for multiple years with key players. Staggering rotations ensures that you have at least 1 offensive star to help bolster your 2nd unit.

Remember when Wade & Bosh would sit in Miami and LBJ would play with more 2nd unit guys (Allen, Miller, Birdman, etc.). Same concept.

That being said, it does help generate easier looks for LBJ, which he does need as he keeps aging.
