I am a longtime Pacers fan but I have been watching many Golden State games this season as well. KD is an elite shooter but he does not have the range that Steph Curry has. Steph Curry is also much better at shooting off the dribble, he doesn't have the luxury of playing with a ball handler like Westbrook.

KD is the better midrange shooter and as good as a 3pt shooter, behind the arc is behind the arc. KD has a post game and a better slasher, also better finisher around the basket. Durant simply can score from anywhere, can't say that for Curry, although Steph is no doubt the GOAT 3pt shooter.

I dont think you realize how ridiculously good Curry is from behind the arc. His ability to hit basically any kind of shot there gives him more "gravity" (better ability to space the floor) to the point of ridiculousness. As in, with him off the floor, everybody on the team basically becomes an average joe shooting wise.

Lets get something straight, its not that curry cant shoot from midrange, its just that there really is no point. Before last year, his career average from
10ft to the 3 point line was something like 47%

In fact, in 2011-2012, he shot 60% from 16ft to the 3 point line, with the highest frequency of his career (30% of his shots)

Last year, he took way less 16ft<x<3point range shots because they really are useless when he can do the same from 3 point range. He took 2/3 of what he took the year before. thats the only reason his shooting percentage went down.

But in terms of ability, he is about a 47% shooter from midrange in his career.

Remember, from 10-16 feet, he shot above 50% last year.

So from 10-16 feet, and 16ft to 3pnt territory, Curry shoots 45% and 46%... for his career.

obviously, he took less shots last year, so thats why his effeciency went down.
But he shot 56% from 10-16 feet in 2013-2014
and 46.5% from 16ft<x<3 point line in 2013-2014

Unless we are saying that he became a worse shooter (since those years are hardly outliers)

he is a great midrange shooter. all time levels actually.

Durant shot 44% from both places in his mvp season.

3 point shooting wise, they arent in the same stratosphere.

If ray allen is a 4, Curry is a 10.

The most 3 pointers Ray allen ever made in a season was 3.4 per game, in 39 minutes.

Curry made 3.6 in 32 minutes last year.

Want more proof?

in the top 100 3 point games ever, it sbasically 8+ makes in a season.

He appears more than Allen, Dirk, and Kobe. Combined

from 3-10 feet, durant shoots 41%

curry shot 46% from there last year.

Durant holds an advantage from 0-3 feet, but he is ridiculously good from there.

Curry is still a gifted slasher anyway. Made 69% of his shots there, and attempted more than kobe.

When very tightly guarded, Durant shoots a higher percetnage than curry on jumps shots (from 10ft to the 3 point line)

Curry shoots a higher percentage when tightly guarded, and durant shoots a higher percentage when guarded and open.

However, going back to 2013-2014 for curry, when he actually tried to shoot mid range jumpers (he really barely shot htem at all last year)

He shot a higher percentage when very tightly guarded, a slightly lower percentage when tightly guarded, a higher percentage when open, and a lower percentage when wideopen.

But his "highs" were better htan his "lows"

Obviously, he became a much better shooter last year.

From 3 point range.

He shoots a slightl better percentage when wide open
He shoots a much better percentage when open (41% vs 46%)
He shoots a much better percentage when guarded tight (35.6% vs 43.7%)
He shoots a slightly lower percentage when guarded relaly tight... but really tight is 0-2 feet, and no one actually takes those shots, even kobe. its basically like jumping into something while you are shooting, so it doesent really matter, for 3 point shots.

Slashing doesent count as shooting.

Are you dumb?

Anyone who thinks Durant doesn't have the same "range" Curry does is a ****ing idiot.

Define range.

consistency at that range? or just ability to hit a shot from that far?

I could be wrong, but the person I quoted that's what it sounded like he was saying. If he meant consistency at a specific range than yeah Curry is better.

Ohhh, sorry. gotcha

tbh though, the thing is that with durant, its still a "did he take that?" kind of shot

With curry its not a suprise.

KD is All-time great, Curry is arguably GOAT shooter, as time progresses difference between them will only become more defined IMO.

If you're trying to make the "overall shooter from everywhere on the court" then KD has to worry about King Nash.

In his prime, dead eye from mid and 3

Lack of volume although, but Nash clearly had a bigger burden in the offense compared to a guy like Curry. He proved in the playoffs he could score large numbers

He's GOAT active shooter maybe, but overall I would prefer this guy:

I'll give the edge to KD over Curry only because KD's mid range game is unstoppable. Curry is the better pure shooter but he has to work way harder than KD to score.
