george karl once again finds himself to be the unluckiest man in the nba

his team is in the pits. they have probably had the toughest schedule in the league so far. gs, lac x2, hou, mem, sa... and these are all valuable home games. but with the new roster, there is no time to get into rhythm with a few wins and gain momentum to start the year.

against that competition, the team has faltered in front of an excited fanbase which then voices its displeasure. the team is demoralized. cousins is grumpy. rudy gay does rudy gay things.

there's plenty of reason to be happy if you're a kings fan. this is a pretty good team being fielded. cauly stein is a seriously impressive athlete with a good nose for the ball. koufas, bellinelli, collison, butler, all better than average reserves. casspi is weak defensively but he's crafty with the ball and he can make teams pay if they double cousins off him.

the elephant in the room is rajon rondo.

in all fairness he has had some good stretches. knocking down some jumpers, using misdirection and change of speed to find easy baskets. he's great at finding people on the break, in motion and in scoring position.

unfortunately teams are never going to stop baiting him into taking jumpshots... and he's proven he'll never make enough of them throughout the year to be a viable starting point guard in this wildly point guard driven league. he was good in his youth and athletic prime, when he was just quicker than everybody else. those days are gone.

i'll leave room for optimism that he does like tony parker. he's smart enough to know he has to put in the work.. but his jumper is pretty fcking broken :lol

bottom line he cannot continue to start... and DEFINITELY not with darren collison sitting on the bench scratching his head. its even made collison play worse imo, you can see him being more aggressive with his offense, playing with a chip on his shoulder that is good for the hustle but also makes him lose sight of his teammates

Rondo is not a lockdown defender and never was. He's decent at best and particularly good at playground tricks. I've seen the stats that suggest that he's a good defender, but I think it mostly has to do with the fact that he was playing on a really good defensive team in Boston.

You guys gave up 2 pick swaps, a future first, and Stauskas to sign Rondo. The Kings' lotto odds effectively belong to Philly. You owe a top 10 protected pick to the Bulls.

The coach has given up on Ben McLemore (not that he's been good). You traded Stauskas in part on the belief he'd be good this season (and the fact the FO gave up on Stauskas).

You guys will need to trade Cousins to right the ship in my opinion. He's one of the best players in the league, but each GM botched building around him. He's your most valuable player by far and only hope to get back picks and young players to do a full tear-down rebuild. Don't re-sign Rondo, trade Collison for a pick (if possible), and trade Rudy. He's on a value contract now that the cap will explode.

Belli and Koufos are good bench players but maybe you can trade them, too.

The problem with Sac is that they should still be building but with Cousin's play and his attitude they need to be trying to win now and that's the expectations they have. But they don't have the roster for that. They have some talent but they need to put in place a system and everyone needs to learn it. It's WAAAAY too early to be mad about losses. They should be looking to lay the ground work this year, improve, start a good culture and then try and pick up more pieces next off season.

How many players only meetings has Cousin's called now? Seems every year there's a story about a couple from him. Normally don't publically hear about them like this so often.
