Chalmers deal to Memphis is agreed upon and teams lining up trade call with league office today, sources tell Yahoo Sports.

The Memphis Grizzlies have acquired Miami Heat guard Mario Chalmers in a trade, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Grizzlies will send guard Beno Udrih, forward Jarnell Stokes and a second-round pick to the Heat, league sources said.

Miami will save $6 million in luxury tax payments on the deal.

In the final year of his contract, Chalmers, who was the starting point guard for two NBA championship teams, was no longer part of the Heat’s future plans.

At 3-5, Memphis has been unhappy with its bench play and hopes that Chalmers will give it an upgrade at backup to starter Mike Conley, league sources said.

So much for Heat loyalty. Riley is such a phoney

No more Rio dribbling off his foot, or his bonehead fouls

Nothing in the way of Tyler Johnson now.

Thank you for being a member of the Heat for 7 years. Good luck in Memphis.

i like it for memphis. an off ball shooter than can close games in the backcourt with conley on certain occasions. can also handle the ball a bit, so conley can slash/dive

Dragic is such a ****ing bitch. This move has Dragic written all over it. Dude absolutely hates any PG on his team. Look at what he did to Phoenix last year :lol

At least Rio can run a functional offense.

Thank you to CHALMERS!!! Will never forget you being the leading scorer for a few playoff games and even our leading scorer for a game in the 2013 finals

You a scrub tho

This move is more about Tyler Johnson than it is Dragic IMO. They feel comfortable with Tyler as their backup PG.

I wonder what role Udrih will have.

Good luck in Memphis, Rio!

Man, Rio had his ups and his downs, and he was definitely a frustrating player a lot of the time, but I always was a fan. He played with a lot of heart, and he never gave up. I always thought his jumpshot was beautiful too.

Good luck in Memphis Rio, sorry to see you go.

I will miss that pothead.

I actually like Udrih, but this move is all about keep Conley after this season. The Grizzlies is playing like shit and Mike leaving is quite likely. i think the managers are trying to get some cap space to do better moves next summer to retain Mike.

I think it's more to shake things up. Rio is a better defender, I presume, than Udrih and they can probably close games with 2 PGs and not lose as much on D.

That being said, it does not look good for Memphis for the future imo. They showed up vs. the Clippers since they hate them so much, but I think Marc is starting to decline. And Z-Bo already started declining before this season.

I wonder what role Udrih will have.Is Johnson a PG? I thought he was more of a wing. I think a smart team will throw him a nice offer this summer. Dude's a solid bench player.

Perhaps Gerald Green has more issues than anticipated and Udrih will help bring outside shooting to the second unit if GG can't play as much going forward. Plus, they wanted to save money on luxury tax payments.

A second unit of Udrih-Johnson-Winslow-McRoberts is actually pretty good on paper. Stokes is a tweener but maybe he brings more energy off the bench than Amar'e or Birdman at this stage.

I think I like this deal for Miami more than Memphis.

it's a move about money, from Miami's POV

it's always been about the 2016 offseason. worst keep secret in the league.

that being said, I will miss Rio for the good and the bad. It will be sad not seeing him in a heat uni, but I get it.

They're saving tax money this year. Look out for Birdman to get moved later this year so they duck the repeater tax.

Exactly. Save the money this year so you can spend it in 2016

chalmers (and birdman too) have been in trade rumours since last season ended so it's not a move out of left field by any stretch of the imagination

They took on salary for next year in this trade, although it's a tiny amount. What they spend this year doesn't really impact their ability to re-sign Wade or Whiteside.

Unless you mean physical cash being sent out to pay taxes vs. not paying those taxes.

They're trying to duck the repeater taxes at the end of the day. They should still have cash in their account to pay repeater taxes and use all of their cap space this summer. If not, then Arrison has a much bigger problem on is hands hahaha

He's actually a very underrated slasher too, can get to the basket and finish in a variety of ways. Just makes wayyyy to many boneheaded plays.

Yeah, he is a good role player, but he needs to rediscover his 3PT stroke for sure. Definitely smoked too much weed tho :lol Him and Beasley :pimp:

Rio is one of the ten greatest?

Wade, Zo, Bron, Hardaway, Rice, Haslem, Bosh, Seikaly, Shaq... Trying to think who else. JWill? Jones?

There are only two things I will remember about Chalmers.

First, the shot he hit at Kansas.

Second, when he hit that open corner 3 against the Mavs in the Finals and yelled, "DON'T FORGET ABOUT ME, NIGGUH!" :oldlol:

Soon it will be Galloway and then Grant off the bench. Look for Phil to move Calderon for just about anything serviceable.

Spo said that Udrih & Stokes will be staying in Miami. I kinda doubt that for the future though. Seems like the likely dumping grounds (Philly, Portland) had too high of an asking price.
