My drama story for the month

Yeah I get it. Why am I asking advice on a public message board, yada, yada, yada.... I just feel the need to vent...

About a month ago after my birthday I went to my cousin's for some drinks. I ended up drinking a bit too much and had to cab home. I forgetfully leave behind my glasses. These are a rare pair of Carrera frames that require a specially cut lens that are larger than a traditional pair. A couple of days later I call my cuz and tell her I'm coming by to grab them. She tells me while she was out her gay roommate's gay friend swipes them off the kitchen counter and borrows them.....:eek:
I'm thinking, that's weird, who borrows prescription glasses? I say that's fine, just get them back. She attempts for a couple of weeks. Next thing I know she gets back to me and says the guy is moving and has packed them away....:mad:
I'm thinking who the hell packs glasses? Especially prescription glasses? Borrowed ones on top of that? So she confirms that he will get them back to me when they unpack and he can get them out of storage. So the month ends and this fellow is moved in. I ask my cuz if she can get them now. Apparently he gets back to her and says he's misplaced them....:rant
So I get this guys number and text him myself. I tell him that I need these glasses because I drive for a living. I also had to get these glasses specially ordered and that the lenses were specially cut. He apologizes for "losing" them and says he has a pair of Hugo Boss's with the same percription....:wtf:
I'm asking how the **** do you think that you can just pass on prescriptions? Stupid hey? I say no, I need those back since I need them for work and if I get in an accident my claim would be void since my licence requires I wear glasses to drive. I would need those pair, or a pair to replace which costs $450. He gets back and says he can't find them but will pay part of it. He feels my cousin should pay part since she didn't take care of them in the first place....:hammerhead:

Yeah dude, I had some shitty friends back in my hardcore drug using days. My extensive classes on body language and interrogation techniques made it to where I can see through the bullshit, real quick. From my experience, here is what I thought while I read your story...

She knew he swiped them when he did it. Probably even had a conversation about it. I don't know your cousin, but if she allowed him to take them, which I believe she did, he probably paid her for it (more on that later).

He's not paying the whole thing, because he already paid your cousin. That's why he made up an excuse that she should pay some.


Not saying I am right, but... I'm probably right. Your shit was stolen by this dude, who paid your cousin probably $100 under the assumption you would forget about them or not remember where you misplaced them. She had no use for them, so she agreed to let him 'swipe' the glasses for a fee. She makes some cash, he gets some nice glasses, win-win for everyone. Until.... you started asking for them. Then the delay, delay, delay act came out. Always delay.

He's got them. He paid for them. He doesn't want to give them back. He surely doesn't want to pay the full value for them because he technically already paid for them. And as I said, I don't know your cousin, but my guess is she's not on the up and up.

Couple that with the fact that she wasn't too concerned about the fact that someone 'borrowed' your shit (cause if you left your shit at my place, I definitely would be awfully pissed if one of my friends took your shit and ran off with it).

One thing nobody has mentioned here is small claims court. Even with incriminating texts, the police might not really put much effort into helping you resolve this situation. But with the evidence you have you'd easily ring him out in small claims.

So to rap this up, I went to this guys work. The guy was stunned when I got there. I talked to him and said that it was a little disappointing that my cousin has friends like this. I told him I wasn't going to do anything to him personally but gave him the ultimatum to either give me the cash value or replace them. Anyways, he admitted to trying to dodge. He ended up offering to choose any pair I wanted. I ended up with a sick pair of Tom Fords that are above the value of my lost pair:

AND on top of that gave me a pair of his Carrera sunglasses for the hassle.

Well I don't think my cuz was involved. He took it when her roommate was home. My observation was my cuz was trying to protect this fellow and didn't want it to escalate.

Yeah, that was ahead scratcher. I did ask him face to face but he kept on repeating sorry and that he had the same perscription. Such a stupid reason. He was obviously dodging the answer. He intentionally stole them and didn't have a single out.

He didn't buy them from my cuz. He stole them and I think he legitimately lost them. No way he gives up this much value without losing them. Unless committing to his story so he doesn't look like a thief is more important than his money. The value of the frames alone is worth more than the whole set I owned previously. Not to mention the lenses that I still have to get fitted. Plus his sunglasses. Those were more disposible since this dude has a dozen different pairs. But still. He could have just bought the same pair as me and save alot, considering he doesn't have to put in a lense.
He's an interior designer. Don't know how much that makes. His office is a suite in a downtown high rise which I found goggling his name.
