LeBron has revitalized his defensive efforts for the seasonal start, but his defensive work wasn't overly impressive on 'Melo tonight; LeBron was 'Melo's defensive assignee when he went on his quarterly outburst in the first quarter, and 'Melo has been either mostly passive since or has only abruptly received the ball during the waning seconds of the shot clock—when he forcefully had to chuck up a last-second shot on him.

Overall, he'll have a more contributive season on that end of the floor, but there is a good chance that he'll burn out down the stretch of the season—at least to the point where the best-case scenario is that he'll be reinstated into the All-NBA Defensive team. There are far too many defensive specialists that'll expend effort on that end of the floor more consistently than LeBron; those tend to be the Defensive Player of the Year awardees for that reason—Kawhi Leonard being one of the few two-way players in NBA history to earn it, as a more recent exception.
