View Full Version : Is the Tablet a useless electronic device for a person who has a cell phone and lapto

Seems to be a pointless electronic device since
1. Your phone can do everything a Tablet can do
2. Tablet is too big for public
3. Not necessary for Indoors since you have the laptop or PC
So what the hell am I paying for when it really serves no purpose at home or in public?

A tablet is more portable than a laptop.
I'd suggest investing in a tablet if you love to watch videos, browse the web, play games, or do other multimedia related things on your phone. The battery life is substantially better than that of a phone.
The bigger screen is obviously a plus. I'd suggest going with a tablet that supports 4G/3G or LTE just so you can use it's internet features without the need of a WiFi connection.
For me this is how I want my electronics to be balanced:
Laptop: should be used for business (school) w/ a little entertainment
Tablet: should be used for entertainment w/ a little business (school)
Phones: should be an equal combination of both
I watch videos, browse the web, play games, and other multmedia things on my laptop at home.

Never really had to use something that bad on the go. If I did, I would be using my phone or preparing for it with my laptop prior to the trip.
My phone provides all the necessary on the go things that I usually need. I don't have data, so tablets aren't much of a use for me.
If I needed the internet that badly, there are wi-fi spots and I can use the internet with my phone (although it's slower than I would like)
I stay close enough to my home that I can just go home soon after I finish my errands and go to my already opened laptop.
Thank you, someone else sees how useless a tablet is besides me

Tablets are useless. Phones are pretty much almost as big as tablets now too, plus have higher quality screens. IDK why tablets have so much of an appeal to people.

Yes. I feel much in the same way as you do. Only after a couple of uses with the tablet did I see POSSIBLE useful traits. Still not enough to persuade me to ever get one. I hate the fact that laptops are becoming more like tablets.
Although I would say this, I've seen my aunt/uncles provide their children a tablet to play, even a fcking 2 year old. She was dragging the tablet around on the ground. I can't imagine if that was a laptop instead.
I would never give a kid a tablet, but if it's needed, tablet is better suited for the young.
That's what some girl told me on the phone, that they are more suited for kids

I'm a gadget nut so of course I have bought a couple of tablets along the way but it was just to tinker with. I have no real use for it, especially since I got a Note phone. That thing is 5.5 or 5.7 inches :oldlol:
I don't travel in trains long enough to want to watch videos on a larger screen. I suppose if I was traveling for a couple of hours, I wouldn't mind a tablet to watch some tv shows I downloaded...but sometimes I have motion sickness which ruins the experience.
I don't game enough. I'd rather listen to music on the go or read a reddit subforum if I have a few mins to kill.
When I'm home, I am strictly laptop and phone communicating on Whatsapp or Kik. Literally haven't turned on a tablet for 3 months. Waste of money for me I swear, wouldn't surprise me if a deal comes along and I jump on another tablet :oldlol: Love my gadgets.

Like someone else said.. Tablets are great if you are constantly travelling and have a few hours of downtime. Large size screen to watch movies saved on tablet or watching youtube (assuming you have good data or wifi access outside of your home). If you are browsing online and not much of a big TV/ Movies/Youtube guy, then you're better off with your smart phone.
At home though, you're better off with a laptop 99% of the time though.

I am not a fan of technology.
Tablets r amazing. If, big if, you use public transportation a reasonable amount. Tablets r so nice for the subway, bus, airplane, train etc. Phones r better if u only drive cars.

I use my tablet all the time. Using it right now to type this, while laying in bed.

It's great if you travel, just load it up with TV shows/ movies to watch to pass time. It's slim, light and portable. Perfect on a train or plane etc..
Apart from that I'm not sure why you'd want one. Before I started travelling I had one for 6 months and used it once, got it very cheap so thought May aswel, it's a galaxy tab s.. But at home it's usually laptop at home, phone everywhere else. No need for it:cheers:
It's not mandatory for people who have laptops or smart phones. It's honestly if you have extra money to spend on browsing the Web, watching movies/TV shows, pictures, music, on a wider screen. It also allows multifunctional, you can do all of that all in one. Taking photos as well. I use my iPad to browse ISH or the Web 99% of the time over a laptop. I use my phone to browse ISH or the Web 80% over the tablet.
My tablet is pretty much jailbroken and used for movies/TV shows, storing photos and that's all. I wiped all of my game apps on it.
The tablet is better for a bigger experience. Otherwise, you really don't need it. Your phone or laptop battery dies turn on the tablet. I look at it as a tool you purchase if you have extra money to spare. It's not necessary. It's good to have if you sit at Starbucks, libraries, dunkin doughnuts, etc. It feels better than a laptop.

Tablets have their niche. I think some artists have tablets to work on the go.
It's also good for Ebooks if you frequently travel locally and you don't want to carry multiple belectronics.
All in all, it's a compromise for a select few people.

They're the best for business. My work uses IMS medical software and i can directly put in case history notes instead of having someone type them into their chart note.
They're also becoming more affordable now. What I love about my iPad 3 is the sharpness of the screen, the larger display and most importantly it has better battery life than my laptop.

I think if you have one of those laptops where the screen is a detachable tablet, then it's pretty useful.
A tablet on its own, when you already have a phone and a laptop, to me personally, does not seem very necessary. But of course for me, I tend to end up typing a lot whenever I go online, and typing on tablets frustrates the hell out of me. For others it may not be such an issue.
Obviously if you HAVE one, you can find reasons to use it. So it's not "useless" in that sense. Is it WORTH the cost? Depends largely on your budget, but for the average person I would suspect not really.
Typing on tablets frustrates me too. Even with the keyboard. If you're writing essays or assignments, note taking, etc. it gets annoying. You'd rather pen and paper or an actual laptop which I'm against for note taking in class. Typing basic responses and messages that aren't full blown on length isn't an issue.
I see tablets making a push for more support and easier note taking / keyboard capabilities

For the most part a tablet is an oversized smartphone (other than some hybrids like a surface that can run Windows) but that's not necessarily a bad thing. A larger screen makes it a better option to watch movies, browse the web, read books etc. Compared to a laptop they can be more convenient to hold and travel with.
I don't they are an "essential" for most people in today's age (ie I would consider a smartphone and some sort of a computer to be "essential" ) but it's a nice luxury item.

I could easily live with out one but I use mine a bit. Good for streaming in another room and good for reading comics on a bigger screen. Those are the main things. I have a gaming tablet too but that's got built in console controls and I use it for emulation so that's not a normal tablet, that thing is handy for on the go gaming.
I wouldn't say they are useless but they aren't needed. Although my parents use there's a shit load, they rarely ever use their laptop anymore and prefer just using the tablet to look up the few sites they use. My dad doesn't have a mobile though and my mum finds the screen on hers too small so I think for old people they could be useful.

But when chatting on ISH doesn't a laptop make more sense instead of a Tablet?

Do you consider a Surface Pro a tablet or laptop?
Anyways, I use my HTC M8, M$ Surface Pro3, and PC. I also have a Kindle Paperwhite I use for books/articles.

That would depend how you use it.
Anyways, too much gadget for me already. Already got a Gaming desktop, Iphone 6s, SP3.
I have a cheap Kindle tablet for the toilet and when I want to watch live TV or stream and I'm away from my Desktop.

Different uses for different needs.
One person's useless device is another's most useful tool.
