One came into the draft hyped and the clear #1 pick while the other was just an afterthought.
Today, 5 years later. Who is better?

Cousins, wouldn't say Wall was an afterthought though, he was pretty highly regarded coming out of UK.

Wall. He's smart and plays with composure.

Wall. He probably isn't the best player between the 2, but he has his head in the right place.

I love Wall but Cousins is just too good imo. Dude is a top 5 talent in the NBA and in any legit franchise would be completely destroying the league.

I want nothing more than Boston to find a way to get him. Brad Stevens would have Cousins competing for best in the world status.

Cousins is a better player, but Wall is right there.

Wall is the definition of a guy worth more than his stats. Does everything out there, and is far more than just an 18/10 guy like his stats suggest.

Who the heck was an after thought? There were debates on who would be better the whole year and leading up to the draft. Wall was drafted first because of personality issues with Cousins and that alone.

Yeah, I think you may be right about this. I agree about Wall being a more trustworthy guy to have in your locker-room, but the talent/impact gap might be too big for this one. Give me Cousins. Wall isn't good enough to justify taking him just because he isn't a headcase.

Has Cousins not have so many question marks around his attitude, he could've gone #1, and definitely over Derrick Favors or Evan Turner.

Cousins was defintely not a top pick. Wall was the consensus #1 pick while Cousins was not in the discussion for the top 4.

I'd take DMC but you have got to provide the right structure around him. Strong head coach and a couple respected vets are needed to check him.

Wall is much easier to deal with in terms of maturity and personality (and he's a great player himself), but Cousins also plays well on both ends and has better range on his J.

Wall is an absolute animal and isn't a headcase. And has actually led his teams consistently to the 2nd round the past 2 season

people would really take wall over boogie? cousins is easily the better player. give the ball to wall when you absoloutley need a bucket... he isnt reliable in those situations and tha'ts why hes not a superstar imo. a very good player, yes. i would take wall on my team over rose right now, so im not hating, but cousins is simply a better player

firstly, taking Wall over Rose doesn't prove you aren't hating. Rose blows

Cousins ruins chemistry, gets coaches fired, plays lazy D

Basically every wing that plays next to Wall puts up career numbers. He's a leader, and a stud defender.

Cousins is not "clearly" the better player when it comes down to what wins games.

No he clearly is the better player

Clearly better at losing and not making the playoffs.
Definitely better a sulking and getting coaches fired
Totally better at getting T'd up in charity games at random high schools and throwing a fit

Meanwhile Wall is leading young squads to the second round, being nearly universally beloved, and winning awards for his charity work.

well rose is my favorite player, look at the avatar smart guy. if rose blows why is it that every time he faces the wizards he owns wall? dude must be straight trash. yeah derrick isnt a superstar anymore but the team is clearley better with him than without.

i dont give a damn about all that other bull shit. cousins is easily better than wall. dude can get you a bucket when you need it. whats wall gonna get you? an assist?? :lol his jumpshot is almost as bad as rose's. if beal wasnt always hurt he would probably be better than wall. down one point 10seconds left. he isnt locking down a guy like westbrook, and he cant give it to him on the other end either. boogie can somewhat protect the rim and he can get buckets. hes a better shooter from basically everywhere on the court. what does wall do better? get assists and steals basically?

. the fact that you have to bring up behavior to close the gap for wall proves my point. boogie is clearly the better player, and that was the question asked. wall is more well behaved, so congrats on that moral victory

no one is impressed that wall can make the playoffs around the fifth seed and get bounced in the second round every year in the east

Rose has only even played the Wizards 4 times since 2011, so who gives a ****? Wall has averaged about 18ppg and 9apg since 2011 against the Bulls, and that's with him being a young player.

multiple times last season, and already once this season, Wall has put the team on his back in crunch time and scored ~10 straight points.

I guess playmaking, defense, and leadership don't matter anymore? Just dump it down to the big man and that's how you win? :facepalm How well has that worked out for the Kings?

Cousins hasn't played 1 minute of meaningful basketball in his entire career. Behavior matters. Getting teammates to buy in is part of being a leader of a winning team. Leading by example (aka attempting defense) is an important facet of actually winning. You can have all the talent in the world, and score 30ppg, but who gives a **** if you only win 20 games? Tell me all about how Sacramento has had no talent....then compare Boogie's teams with Wall's and see who gets the most out of their guys.

Wall didn't get bounced in the 2nd round last season.....he broke like 10 bones in his hand and couldn't play. The team fell apart without him. The same team that embarrassed the Raptors with him a week before.

In today's era of weak Centers, I think Cousins would be more valuable with the right coach. If he keeps his attitude, I would rather have Wall.

no one is impressed that cousins can miss the playoffs and win less than 30 games every year

If he really was a top-10 (or top-5 like GIF REACTION wants you to think) then his teams would at least be around .500.....at least once.....right? Since when do top-10 players lead their teams to sub 30 win seasons?

Cousins.

If the clown can keep his manchild syndrome in-check, dude would be unstoppable in all relevant facets that go into being a dominant big man.

The skill and talent are there. Lets hope he overcomes that Hakeem-esque hurdle, and tackles the mental aspect.

Wall has a career On/off court +/- of 4.4

his last 3 seasons: +12.3, +7.5, +6.8

Current year: +16.4

Cousins carer On/off +/- is 2.1

his last 3 seasons: +9.5, +3.9, -3.6

Current year: +12.4

I like my star player to play both sides of the court, and lead his teammates. Wall's impact on his team's play is reminiscent of Jason Kidd.

It's tough for folks that don't watch Wizards games to understand John Wall's impact. Too bad the stats on "assist quality" (aka, the quality of shot that comes from an assist) aren't widely available (I'm not going to pay money for the stats to back up what I already know). Wall would be near the top of the league in assist quality every season. Like I said earlier in this thread, every wing who plays with Wall puts up career numbers, and insanely different numbers when they play without him. He already got Webster and Ariza fat contracts by force-feeding them 3's and dunks.
