View Full Version : Skal LaBust?
7 points 4 reb tonight cause Duke for the #2 projected overall pick....I know he's a young kid and it's just one game and this is going to sound crazy but skinny super long 6'10 power forwards with a perimeter game seem to be a dime a dozen these days. I miss Karl Malone and Rick Mahorn (sigh).

Like you said. that was one game for a kid who's just come to college. Way to over react.

Yep. That's why it's called a prediction.

Did you watch the game? He was in foul trouble the whole night.

Oh really? So a guy who looks like he eats once a week couldn't man up on defense? Shocking.

Reminds me of Brandan Wright a bit.
Most of the freshman in that game were underwhelming tbh. Weak draft.

What a weird response. You have some personal animosity towards this young man?

What a weird response. He's just a kid coming in to college :facepalm
I'll clarify. I know it's a big stretch to already say he's a bust and maybe he won't be. But I really believe that kids are getting way too much hype based on having a body type. When I watch him play I don't see anything magical. I don't see an amazing skill set or jaw dropping athleticism. I see a 6'10 guy with a very thin frame and nothing particularly stand-outish. So I'm taking a wild guess early. Bust.
And no, nothing against him personally. I just don't like the hype machine and in general I think the hype machine doesn't recognize talent, it tries to create it artificially

I'll clarify. I'm mentally handicapped and have not watched a single game of basketball in my life. My life is depressing and I'm cheering myself up by attacking a player who's being hyped online.
Fixed it for you.

Skal looked like he skipped breakfast and had a light lunch of under 600 calories for the day

Jesus Christ. Maybe you and Skal can go have a good cry together and talk about your feelings about me. Write me a letter. This is elite level sports, players will have critics and doubters and nay-Sayers. All I've said was I think he's over hyped and he's too skinny to play in the paint. I don't have an agenda against the guy, I just don't see it. If you think that's out of bounds go to the WNBA forum. Holy sh!t even basketball FORUMS have gotten soft these days

It just makes zero sense unless you have an agenda to make a thread about a college player based on one bad game when the season has JUST started.

Still rather unimpressive. Maybe he turns it on later? Kind of a foul machine, rail thin, not much of a frame, doesn't rebound. He's long, but length only helps so much when you're weak. Lee is obviously better at this stage.

Thomas Welsh dominated him.
Thomas Welsh will be a late round steal.

He's only played high school basketball, and most of it just fake basketball like AAU or EYBL or whatever all star game crap or invitation tournament.
Adjusting to a system like Kentucky is not easy for a guy like that.
Besides, even NCAA Division I is not that good of basketball. I always say there are 1-2 ballers at any typical park or street court anywhere in basketball popular places that are better than like 2/3 of most NCAA Division I rosters.
Most of the talk of all the NCAA players is just media hype anyway.
He's a young kid and nothing more. He's got talent, skill, and natural ability. Way too early to judge him now I think. He's got talent for sure, but come on now, of course he isn't going to be that good right now.
In case you have not grasped it yet, hardly a single player taken in the NBA draft is actually a good player, or at least certainly not when they are drafted.
These mock draft lists are almost solely consisted of guys that are not actually good players, and are just prospects.

So do you guys feel it's Ben Simmons or bust? If not, who else do you like?

this kid came to play today. Happy to see it. Big presence at the rim on defense and his jumper is looking so so smooth. If he keeps playing like this he could end up a top 5 pick again. Very impressive.
