View Full Version : It's fun to hype up Porzingis, but he isn't that good...

I want him to succeed. A lot of people do.
But quite honestly, the kid is not very good. Not a consistent shooter, can't take a bunch of contact and finish plays consistently, gun-shy, kind of soft, etc.
Maybe he will develop, but I don't get the hype.

So he hasn't been consistently and completely dominant throughout his first dozen NBA games, and because of this his hype is confusing to you?

You are right, he's not good. However, I do think that he has enormous talent.
He's not a good player at all right now, and anyone saying he is automatically proves they have zero basketball knowledge.
However, his talent is tremendous, and I would have taken him #1 in the draft. That being said, he's been hugely overrated ever since Draftexpress started their go to NBA hype gimmick marketing shtick nonsense (that most people outside of USA have been laughing at for years because it is so ridiculous) on him last year.
It's all manufactured by sports and marketing agencies and ESPN and the NBA play along. It's all the same typical bullshit hype and marketing.
He's a great talent, he should have been drafted #1 (but was not because the racist NBA won't draft a Nordic guy #1), and at the same time, he's enormously overrated, over hyped, and getting all this Jeremy Lin, Ricky Rubio, Nikola Mirotic, etc. type of endless bullshit nonsense from the morons in US sports media that just repeat like parrots whatever sports marketing agencies and NBA profiteers tell them.

wtf?
He is putting up 13/9/1/1/1 with only 1.6 turnovers in 25 mpg.
His shooting may be poor at 43.9 eFG% but he is solid all around and that is reflected in his 17.9 PER.

No it isn't. It's the nutcases of the media (like ESPN) and marketing world (the sports agents), along with the corporate psychopaths (like NBA and their sponsor partners) that are as always making up shit that is not true, and making morons (NBA only fans) believe it.
It's actually called this ---> brainwashing.

The biggest thing is you can tell he has the right attitude to maximize his talents.
He might not necessarily ever be a guy who drops huge numbers on a regular basis (although maybe he will, who knows).
But just the overall matchup nightmare he presents will make him HUGELY valuable to any team. He might not be a guy that's gonna carry a bad team. But add him to a solid team, and he could easily be a championship caliber difference maker eventually.

Porzingis is a great talent. He's not a very good basketball player at this time however. I would rate him as not even a top 100 player in Europe just a few months ago.
That being said, his talent and potential is real, and he would have been the #1 NBA pick if he was from USA and black. The racism and xenophobia is the major controlling factor in the NBA.
It does not surprise me that Jackson was the one to draft him, because he thinks for himself, instead of just blindly following NBA rules and mantras ("never draft a white guy").............

Anyone with even basic rudimentary understanding of basketball fundamentals can see he's barely even an average player right now, under best case scenario.
He can play in the Knicks..........the Knicks are an abomination against basketball. That is how bad they are. That is how bad most lower level NBA teams are.
He's not good enough to make the rotation in a good Euroleague team.
He's a young talent playing in a joke team, that competes in an almost fake and choreographed WWE style of a flying circus of a league.
Again though, he undeniably has great talent and potential, and should have been the #1 pick of the draft. If he was a black kid from USA (like Towns) they would have drafted him #1 without hesitation. They did not, because the NBA is so clearly blatantly racist to anyone that is not retarded.

Easily?
Here are KAT's stats through 13 games:
16 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 2.5 bpg on 52 FG% and 90 FT%.
Per 36 he averages 20, 13 and 3.
Same PER as rookie Duncan despite spending only 1 year in college to Duncan's 3.
It's pretty obvious who the best rookie is so far - numbers like those give a clear indication KAT could eventually become a superstar center. Watch him play and you become even more convinced (notice for example the great passing, which isn't translating into assist numbers yet but is very real)
I really like Porzingis' potential as well as his will to prove his doubters wrong. But so far he's "only" a top 3 rookie who's shown flashes of brilliance. If his jumper becomes more consistent and he manages to stay healthy, he could become a star... he's just not there yet.

He's shooting 42.7% and it's climbing. He's also only played 14 games, that's what you call a small sample size. Lots of guys come into the league and initially struggle with their shooting before making an adjustment.

This is my point exactly. The OP made a thread a few days ago saying the league is racist against white players and doesnt give them any opportunities to shine (using Jimmer Fredette as an example). If you got skills and play your ass off you gonna get playing time...no matter your skin color.
