We all know that jordan > kobe throughout overall career accomplishments and all time goat list.

But this would have to be the closest and most even faceoff in any one on one match. Take away the team mates and the "eras" these guys played in and they're almost equals.

They have the same moves same hunger determination competitiveness and ruthlessness.
And they were both great on defense.

Kobes lower fg% in my opinion is a result of being less willing to pass (or greedy) then jordan and more likely to take on a double team. So i do not believe that fg% is the best indicator.

Jordan does have the greater leaping ability bigger hands and power.

No, they aren't even close to being equals. Jordan has significantly better achievements and stats, and for their careers outscores Kobe by nearly 10 ppg in the Finals

They'd take turns beating each other, is the fairest non-stan and most reasonable answer.

They're very close 1 on 1.

Maybe Jordan wins 4 games to 3, but not surprising if it's the other way around.

Kobe's so skilled that he led the entire league in post up efficiency in his 17th season.

Kobe.

jordan 7 outta 10

better athlete
quicker
jumps higher
smarter
higher motor

sure once kobe gets going with his jumpshots he's unstoppable. but relying on bad shots wont cut it in the long run. jordan knew what a good shot was. he had the ability to create them and, in contrast to kobe, was willing to use them. its what allowed him to remain efficient night in and night out.

jordan is also a better competitor. and im not just talking about wanting it more. you can want it all you want but actually getting it is another matter. sure you can make mean faces, yell at people, and put in 120% effort, but unless that translates into results, it means jack *hit. jordan though, you dont *uck with him. he thrives off challenges. if you slight him in the slightest, you're *ucked. we've all heard numerous stories of how everytime someone disrespected or challenged jordan in some way, he would hand their *sses to them. jordan was *ucking ruthless. kobe on the other hand is none of that. so in this dream scenario where jordan is being challenged by low-rent jordan, im sure he'd take it personal, and itd be fuel to the fire.

Jordan.

It's a bad matchup for Kobe as his long range shooting advantage won't really come into play and Jordan's physicality will come into play.

I would say that it's as even a match up as you'll get with Jordan.

Jordan has the physical advantage whereas Kobe has the technical advantage.

There's no doubt that MJ is the better athlete in just about every way imaginable. However, Kobe's advantage is that he grew up studying MJ's moves and perfecting them, probably better than MJ ever did.

Jordan still got better looks because he got better separation and more elevation. His huge hands probably helped as well.

Kobe was still effective because at least from a technical standpoint, Kobe had MJ's moves perfected. It's whether or not he could create the separation or elevate over his defender enough.

Why is this an advantage? Kobe studied MJ for his moves and knows all about what he's going to do and how he does it. I don't think MJ ever studied himself, he studied his opponents.

I think in this case, I would give 5.5 games out of 10 in favor of MJ.

Interviewer: "So who wins (between Kobe and MJ)??"

Phil: "Oh, it's gonna be MJ......"

There's many more quotes from Phil - I might make a thread of all the times he said MJ > Kobe.

Of course, MJ would destroy Lebron much worse, especially considering Kyrie destroyed Lebron repeatedly 1-on-1:

MJ's overall combination of skill/athleticism is far greater than Kobe's...

That's why MJ achieved Kobe's career stats at 39 years old (25/5/5)..

This was during game #41 of 2002 season:

now you reverse to some other shit and backpeddle like a little f*ggot

make up your mind

and if kobe was playing in his 14th season at age 39 with a fully intact achilles. yeah he'd do quite a bit better than he is right now

I always LOL when people post this interview.

"Phil, do you agree that Kobe has better basketball skills than MJ"

"Um....mhm.....cough....(10 second pause)....he does.." Then he goes on for the next 2 minutes to talk about how awesome MJ is :lol

This interview occured back in 2006 or 2007 when he was actively COACHING Kobe.

Anyone with a brain should be able to realize that his most recent interviews give a better representation of what his true feelings between the MJ and Kobe comparison are. He is no longer coaching neither player so there is no bullsh!t involved

Phil has always been clear about MJ and Kobes differences, not only in that interview but several since he stopped coaching.

Who cares? Neither is close to being the best one on one player.

Taller and longer players would beat them both. Garnett, Griffin, Nance, etc would all handle them. PF's dominate these matchups.

the tall guys lose 1 on 1s routinely at the local ymca

the smaller guys just toy with them while the bigger guys have to give them 2-3 feet of separation due to not wanting to get blown by

most of the time it turns into an easy wide open shot at the top of the key near the foul line

when bigs come out farther than that they give up layups

and when the big gets the ball on offense the smaller guy basically forces them to shoot cause they foul the big guy on every post up back down move trying to strip the ball

so they gotta put up with it or call the foul and start back at the top again.

theres no foul outs in 1 on 1 so bigs sooner or later gotta settle for a long range shot or try something else
