The Lakers are just as bad as the Sixers. The West at the moment are floundering because of some teams injuries (NO), some chemistry issues (Houston/LAC), and some age (Memphis)... it will sort itself out by the ll-star break.

It's not like either conference has to face a true test before the finals. Nothing in the NBA compares to me having to face an all-time great like Peyton before even getting to the Super Bowl.
