Kobe hasn't just faded slowly into irrelevancy, but rather has become a MASSIVE net negative. Has this ever happened to a player who was as good as he was in his prime?

In all seriousness: has a player in his 20th season after 3 season ending injuries been asked to play a central role on a bad team with a terrible coach?

Plenty of legends have had their bodies breakdown at the end of their careers. None of them were this bad.

Hakeem. But he wasn't out there shooting his team outta games. Was basically a slow catch and shoot C from 15 feet.

AI? Same mentality as Kobe. Same result. He just wasn't as good as Kobe.

Most guys would've quit by now but despite injury Kobe wanted to give it a shot

Realistically this is the end result of many bad decisions made by management. We are now seeing the direct result of that

When they had the team with Nash, Dwight, Gasol, Kobe they went with D'Antoni instead of Phil?

They let Dwight walk and got nothing. Pau walk and got nothing.

Kobe should have retired after that Achilles injury. He was done. But since he didn't he should NOT have been offered that massive contract. Management said f*ck the fans at that point and made the entire franchise bend over for one player. They crippled their ability to sign players, move forward in a decent rebuild.

All they can hope for now is they're bad enough to land that top 3 pick and Kobe retires and these dudes put out a young talented roster or something. They're struck.

Happens to every great at some point. I don't mind that he's struggling. My problem with him now and in the past is his selfishness. He played the game the wrong way many times. That just never sat well with me.

Yup. He has no self-awareness. He tries to play like he's still a superstar.

:facepalm People like you give Kobe fans a bad rap. How on Earth can you ride his d*** and jump ship so quickly as soon as you realize he's done? Do you not have any honor and self respect?

Yeah, if he just accepted his place and took a back seat, I would cheer him on. But it's so obvious he still thinks like he's "the man" on offense. Just jacking up bad shot after bad shot.

That's why he's a terrible coach tho, any sane coach should bench this useless chucker.

This is why he doesn't deserve any sympathy...nobody can be this delusional.

Well they did end up with a young core, but unfortunately it was irreparably poisoned by CancerBe and had to be jettisoned.

It’s legit hilarious that the franchise savior turned out to be Lebron James.
