His defensive rmp is pretty much the highest in the league

Seems at the moment the league is leaning towards giving the award to wing players.. But realistic Duncan is making a case for himself. Again. Duncan not having a DPOTY year is the biggest load of crap ever.. He has the second highest career defensive rating.. Ever....

The Spurs currently have the highest ranked defense in the league. I know they have had a soft schedule but they generally up their game as the season progresses. If they can hold onto the number one defense in the league and Duncan holds onto those ridiculous advanced defensive stats.. Can he fineally win?

Duncan faces a few problems. The biggest is that he is playing under 30 a game. The other issue is for some irrational reason everyone wants to give credit to Duncan's since for his defense. On another note, he will drop off some, and likely pick up a bit more offensively as the season goes on. But I am all for him finnly getting the award. It just isn't likely.

Duncan is still pretty great, but he is not in contention for DPOY.

If he is awarded it, it'll just be conflated as a life-achievement award to "redeem" his past snubs from the distinction from back when he actually deserved it; otherwise, there is no conceivable way he'll have deserved it from a meritocratic outlook. Due to all the minutes he's resting and games he'll miss at the brittle age of 39-years-old alone,'he isn't bound to have the same cumulative effect on that end of the floor as other, more deserving candidates.

He's not winning with Whiteside in the league
