Mavs hung in there and kept it competitive. Harris hit some big shots. But the Spurs kept battling, lead by Kawhi for sure. Dude has blossomed into quite the player  (or at least he's finally being given the minutes and go-ahead to shoot alot)

Spurs lead in scoring for like 98% of the game. I agree it was really competitive, but outplayed them? Naaah... Going into the game Mavs averaged 101 ppg (.44 FG%) but tonight they scored 83 points (.41 FG%) with Dirk good on the boards but having a relatively quiet night otherwise.

Are you high, drunk or both? Wait, also stupid.

Spurs led the entire game dumb dumb. How does a team out perform another team but never take the lead?

Dirk Nowitzki:applause: :applause:

The thing about shooting...it doesn't go away with age. Especially if you're so tall you don't need athletic ability to get a look. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Dirk can play till he's into his mid 40's if he really wants to. At 50 the guy might just be Sam Perkins....minus missing a few more games than him. Dude's a beast.

nah. I watched nearly every mavs game since 2005/2006. additionally to the fact that he lost his mobility and athleticisim, i can clearly see the difference when he shoots.

until maybe 2013-2014 he really jumped pretty high when shooting. Now his knees and legs cant do this anymore. he barely jumps when shooting. this leads to the fact that he cant shoot over everyone like he used to. he needs more open room to shoot.
his body is completly exhausted. he had an all-nba season 2013-2014 carried this scrub to the playoffs in the wild wild west, but then was completly exhausted. same last year and this year will be the same also.

when im watching him.....im amazed that he still can run. he has to move so much just get the ball in his hands....still amazing.

Have you watched the Spurs this season? Manu is having a great year and so is Parker (just missed the triple double last night and leading all PGs in shooting % this season at .561).

yup.. people say "shooting doesnt go away" but you cant say it like that.. you need more, Dirk won't be able to go on for much longer.

The issue is more he needs the ball so much and he has to bend defenses for the system to work. If he shot less and had to run less to get the ball, he'd be the same old shooter. Certainly legs do go over time, but again the issue is volume and effort. Not the shot itself.

Shooting wide open jumpers doesn't just go away. But bring able to get your shot off in isolation, being able to get separation to get the shot off, does go away.

And Pointguard might should read that article for it just shows how much Dirk impacts the game (still) without ever scoring.

Exactly.

Because the Spurs entire game plan was to make anyone other than Dirk shoot. They doubled him in the post, stuck with him on the pick and roll (sometimes with 2 guys)...etc.

This game was like the prototypical example of what Dirk's impact can be even if he doesn't get a lot of shots up.

Now that we have things like SportVu...we can actually track this stuff.

The Mavs had 40 uncontested shots. They made 10. That is horrendous from the rest of the group. Granted we were on the 2nd night of a back to back and the Spurs play amazing defense imo, but NBA teams shouldn't be able to give up 40 uncontested shots as a viable strategy against real teams.

But it just goes to show how the smartest coach in the game wants to cover Dirk. He'd rather give up uncontested shots, a lot of them, than let Dirk get into the game offensively.

Like the post above...it's hard not to be jealous of the Spurs on a couple of fronts.

1. from the Dirk / Duncan perspective...Duncan played alright, but he's just an afterthought in a game like that...talk about a quiet night...he was silent. Yet his loaded team allows him to do this and remain elite.

2. Just from a team building perspective...the Spurs have run laps around the Mavs since the 03 season. Games like this are just a reminder how much greater of a franchise the Spurs have been over all these years.
