:lol

Cotto-Canelo just did a minimum 900K buys this past Saturday and Big Klit is a rock star in Germany. This fight is taking place in a 55,000 capacity arena.

Klit by 9th round TKO.

Boxing is in a golden age of sorts right now, actually.

I wouldnt say golden age......but it is def in a better state now than it was before.......

There's good fights nearly every weekend now. Bute-Degale, Klitschko-Fury this weekend, then Jacobs-Quillin, Lee-Saunders etc...all quality bouts. And the game is in much better shape with Mayweather gone...

There is no public interest. The public only cares about HW's. Even though there is plenty of talent in the lower classes.

Even then, sure as fukc ain't a golden age.

I don't give a shit what the public finds interesting.

And yes it's a seriously exciting time for true fans.

Some seriously all-time great boxers in their primes or around it (Ward, Golovkin, Rigondeaux, Kovalev) and many skilled up and coming guys (Crawford, Thurman, Canelo, etc)...like I said nearly every week is a very good fight.

:biggums:

We're only a few months removed from a fight between 2 147-lbers doing 4.6 million PPV buys and half a billion dollars in revenue.

And again, the most recent big PPV fight (MWs at a catchweight) just did 900K-1 million buys and neither of those dudes are even American.

inflation when compared to past era's and the masterful marketing infrastructure of boxing.

if youre honest you know boxing interest has been dying in america since the 80's and mayweather has only added to the downfall in interested ppv's after the masses felt cheated from massive hype in watching a poohsee running around the ring being called goat.

Boxing has returned to Network TV for the first time since the 80s. CBS, NBC, and many cable networks (ie Spike the former home of the dwindling UFC, HBO, Showtime, etc). The sport is actually in the best shape its been in decades and there are several stars who are gearing up to fill the holes Floyd and Manny's retirements will leave.

There's actually more marketable potential megastars right now than there's been overall since the 4 horsemen and Tyson days of the 80s.

Meanwhile, Holly Holm KTFO the UFC's only star and the organization as a whole.

the holm rousey rematch will be huge, and possibly future ones after that. itll beat the first fight by a lot i bet.

granted ufc has issues with the mens division draws being mostly has beens or suspended/retired/injured. they need a new generation to step up quick.

either way i can see boxing really falling off when the baby boomers start dying.

People have been saying that Boxing would die or fall off since the 60s. There is absolutely nothing in sports more compelling than a super fight in Boxing. Just a few months ago, nearly 5 million people were convinced into paying $100 a pop to watch some over the hill 147 lbers go at it, 5 years after they should've. That fight made half a billion dollars in revenue. Even the Superbowl doesn't touch that ($330 million generated by Superbowl XLVIII).

Meanwhile, every major organization that has gotten into the MMA business has folded (Pride, Elite XC, Dream, even the UFC in the 90s/early 00s). The UFC today has no stars and they're getting squeezed out of TV channels. Only a matter of time before they go the way of Pride.

its very generational interest by and large tho. sort of like whats happened to baseball in the last couple decades as older generations have died off.

it wont ever die but interest will drop quite a bit i bet. id love to see the average age buying boxing ppv's...

Klitschko.

I was looking forward more to De Gale Bute anyways as I love middleweight/super middleweight.

Jacobs Quillin will be dope too

But Lee-Saunders is going to be the best fight of them all because Lee actually has the balls to fight Golovkin.

I didn't enjoy the fight all that much. The last round was the only interesting round. Only 2-3 good punches were thrown in the previous 11. It was a case of Fury being less worse than Vlad.

Heavyweight boxing is in a bronze era. Hopefully the States can produce a young talent soon to compete with guys like Anthony Joshua in the future. Right now heavyweight division is a joke.
