Lol at straight trash. Little Man is easily one of the most underrated comedy's of the past ten years.

Younger Wayans Bros get shitted on because they're not Keenen and Damon. Stop treating them like Gerald Wilkins or Harvey Grant.

Do yourself a favor- don't. Even if someone offers to pay you to watch it.

Kizzle is just blinded by his Wayans love. They can't do wrong in his eyes. If I didn't know any better, I'd think he was the scion of the Wayans family himself. :coleman:

The family has high standards, so people compare it to I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, In Living Color, ect.

I mean, Mike didn't release a Thriller every time out. Dangerous still jammed bruh.

There's waaaaaaaaay too many Wayans and only like 5% of them have any actual talent. There isn't a less talented actor/comedian working today than Shawn, let's be real. He peaked as DJ-SW 1, another in a long line of gigs he would've never had if he wasn't related to Keenan Ivory.

And the new generation of Wayans is more Tito or Jermaine than Michael.

Jermaine has like 30 charting singles throughout his solo career. And three number 1's at that.

Damon, Kim, Shawn and Marlon would have careers if their last names were Jackson, Anderson, Williams and Kendricks. Even Damon Jr. would. Stop the nonsense!

And lol at Shawn not having any talent. You do know Shawn was the main writer for most of the Wayans Bros episodes, Don't Be a Menace, Scary Movie, ect. He's the one who comes up with the ideas. Marlon is the one who acts them out mostly. He was on one of those late night shows telling them how he thinks of these ideas. He'll call Marlon and say "I got this" Marlon says cool, write it and give it to me. Than have big bro Keenen direct. Homie has been doing stand-up since the late 80s.

Damon Sr. and Marlon maybe. Without Keenan Ivory, the Wayans would've been the most famous family of garbage men in their neighborhood.

Lol at maybe Marlon, dude was at a performing arts school when Hollywood Shuffle was still being filmed. Dude was actually taking acting classes before Keenen even let him on In Living Color.

Hell, without Keenen we wouldn't have a lot of famous talent from the past 30 years. Eddie Murphy, Robert Townsend, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, ect. Not just Wayans.

And? :lol

Literally anyone can go to a performing arts high school and take acting classes. Doesn't mean a damn thing.

Keenen Ivory = The only reason anyone knows any of the Wayans family.

Dude is a comedy pioneer. Launched too many careers to count (including some affirmative action with Jim Carrey and J-Lo). Unleashed the Wayans family and their 767 members onto the World.

Wait, so was Marlon getting all these roles in non-Wayans related films like Abvoe The Rim, GI Joe, Requiem for a Dream because of his last name?

:biggums:

And why is he taking classes and going to school if his brother is the almighty Keenen Ivory Wayans?

Wait, so was Marlon getting all these roles in non-Wayans related films like Abvoe The Rim, GI Joe, Requiem for a Dream because of his last name?

:biggums:

Exactly. He would've never been considered for those later roles if he hadn't gotten his foot in the door in his brothers' projects. Look at his first few roles- Im Gonna Git You Sucka (directed by his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans), Mo' Money (Written by his brother Daman Wayans) and Robert Townsend's show (who was a collaborator/close Wayans family friend). He even got his first writing work on In Living Color (Keenen Ivory's show).

Without those early projects, he doesn't have the credits, experience, connections, etc to be considered for Above the Rim and his later work.

There are thousands of people with more talent than Shawn or Marlon Wayans who went to prestigious theater schools working as waiters because they didn't have the luxury of older siblings who made movies.

And I'm not singling out the Wayans. It happens across the board. Nepotism is the main star-making mechanism in Hollywood. Always has been, always will be. Jaden Smith would not be known to the World if he was born in some small town in Alabama to a single mom who worked at Target instead of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett. There are hundreds more examples I could point out. Just the way it goes.

Because he wanted to become a better actor? :confusedshrug:

But the thing is, everyone gets in the door somehow right? May it be from an older brother or just knowing the right people or being at the right place at the right time. Shawn could have gotten discovered the same way Keenen did, if his name was Shawn Williams. Working those clubs day and night. You're bound to get noticed. Marlon could have gotten discovered the same way Chris Rock got discovered by Eddie Murphy.

There's no guarantees in show business. How many marquee comedians are there in the world right now? Probably like 5-10 who are at the level of a Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK, Kevin Hart who could sell out arenas in any city in the World.

Now how many comedians are out there trying to make it- Working dingy clubs for little or no pay? Tens of thousands, at least. You don't think having a family member who makes movies/TV shows gives someone an exponentially better chance of achieving success in an industry where success rates are virtually 0?

You can't be that naive, Kizzle.

All I'm saying is, if you're funny you're gonna get work and eventually discovered. Keenen was the first, there was no other family member doing it before him and it happened. Because he was working clubs with Murphy, Larry Miller, Seinfield, Bill Maher, George Wallace, ect. And they all got discovered at the same time.

If Shawn was no relation, but stuck to his craft and worked the clubs relentlessly with the comics his age and got a little following. He'd eventually get looked at. He would have ended up on BET Comic View or Def Comedy Jam or An Evening at the Improv in the late 80s or early 90s at the least and all you need is a great 5 minute set and the rest is history. Just look at Chris Tucker.

Again, there is absolutely no guarantee of that. Been to a few comedy clubs in different cities on the East Coast and saw some acts I thought were hilarious but then never heard or seen that comic since.

And again, you just named probably like .01% of the comedy club circuit of that time that made it big.

See the above. And there are plenty of comics who did Comic View and Def Jam who were never heard from again. Plenty of them with far more talent than Shawn f*cking Wayans. Only difference is they didn't have established and influential siblings to give them DJ'ing and then later performing gigs on their popular primetime sketch comedy show.

just out of curiosity how did you get in the showbiz?

Long story short- I was working as a real estate agent but wanted to do something else. I had never done anything acting related- no school plays, no acting class, nothing. But I had always been interested in creative writing so figured I might try screenwriting as a hobby to keep me occupied.

One thing led to another, decided to try acting and saw an audition notice on craigslist. Went to it, got great feedback, figured I might as well see how far I can take it. Ended up as a Non Union background performer on an NBC pilot, got a nice featured gig as a dead kid on a gurney. Few months after the shot was done, I randomly get a call from one of the biggest casting directors in the city (Suzanne Smith-Crowley... Still have no clue how she got my # :lol ). She says they rewrote that role to make it a principal role and she wanted to have me come in and audition for it. Did that, got the callback to do it again for the director. Killed it. Got the role.

If you're working consistently, you will eventually be recognized by someone. Some guys get in this thing and do it maybe one or two years and think that they are gonna make it big. It ain't like that. Bernie Mac started doing stand up in 1977 and didn't get noticed until 15 years later when he was on the debut season of Def Comedy Jam in 1992.

And please let me know of these funny comics from Def Jam and Comic View who were much better than Shawn Wayans (not sarcasm, I'm being serious, lol) but never to be seen again? Because all the funny guys from that era went on to bigger and better things. From Bill Bellamy's to JB Smoove's to freakin Bruh-Man from Martin. This goes back to my comment of doing this thing one or two years. Those guys who are "funnier" than Shawn, probably had only a 5 minute set. What happens after that? They need more material. Those are 5 minute comics. Clubs probably seen them on Def Jam and say hey, we'd like you to do a show with Joe Torry and Eddie Griffin. Do you have a hour long set, a 45 minute set, 30 minute set ...

I think/thought all those movies were funny except for Little Man.

Little Man is one of the only movies I've ever walked out of. I'm ashamed I even paid for it, me and the homies were REALLY bored that day.

Dance Movie was underrated honestly. The parody 'Movies' were terrible but the dance one I remember having some pretty funny scenes. Then again, I was really stoned when I watched it but I also was for other shitty terribly unfunny movies.

White Chicks was funny to me when it came out. It has some semi neo-classic comedic scenes. Esp the ones with Terry Cruz and the friends
