...that getting a big contract to waste away on a bad team at the tail end of your career is not the way to go. It's best to ring chase and go for 1 year deals.

I hate to see Kobe waste away on the Lakers seeing him trying way too hard to do too much.

Didn't he sign that contract before he had two major injuries? Kobe's one of those rare one-team for life kind of superstars, and he has 5 rings already, so it made some sense at the time.

Yeah, it made sense at the time and was a sound decision on his end but hindsight is 20/20. Going forward, a player might not want to be too warm to the idea...

Kobe would be just as awful on a contender as he is now. Only difference is the damage he could do to his team would be more limited due to playing fewer minutes.

meh, he would have a different role and could possibly play most minutes against a second string. Theoretically.

he was fully aware of sucking and milking a willing franchise to cater to him for his contributions. kobe and the powers that be over there are equally naive to trending team structures.

He would not be a rotation player on a contender the way he is playing right now.

He can't defend.
He can't hit the open shot.
He can't get in the paint.

What would he do? Maybe he could play a Jamal Crawford role but only the Clippers have him. Most other even borderline contender teams don't have a wildcard like that.

What about a healthy Kobe on a team like Memphis? Say he didn't suffer those two injuries.

It's arbitrary but it may be an upgrade on Carter if Kobe can pace himself accordingly.

What if Kobe was 10 years younger?

both are lame

the best option is the 3rd one you omitted from the OP

kobe should have retired in 2013 after the achilles injury

ring chasing as a role player and chucking while 1/100th as good or healthy as you once were are neither a good way to go out

kobes last moments should have been hitting those 2 free throws to put LA in the playoffs on a torn achilles tondon....limping off the court....and into the hall of fame

Jordan and Emmitt Smith couldn't go out with class either. Or Jerry Rice. Emmitt on the Cardinals? Rice on the Raiders? Come on.

At least Jordan hadn't something left in the tank. He was still good, just not great anymore.

The ****? Rice was still good on the Raiders his first couple of years.

Maybe I'm thinking of Rice on the Seahawks then.
