Remember in 2013 when the Nets traded a bunch of first round picks for Garnett & Pierce that resulted in a 2nd round loss to Miami in 2014? Garnett & Pierce both fell off a cliff, Pierce now comes off the bench for the Clippers & Garnett is a bench warmer for the Wolves.
Just two years later the Nets are now 3-13 with no talent on their roster and will most likely have a top 3 pick this summer and in the next couple of years. But wait, Nets traded those picks to Boston for past prime legends.
Boston has Brooklyn's 1st round pick in 2016, 2018, & they have the option to swap 1st round picks in 2017 in which they most likely will.:oldlol:
Damn, it looks like this franchise will be in the dumps for the next 5-10 years.
Danny Ainge da GOAT.

I always wonder how it would have gone if rookie Kidd wasn't coaching that team. That starting lineup was stacked, but the talent just didn't fit with DWill.

They play in the LEastern Conference.
They play in front of the New York media.
Their GM will have loads of money to throw at Free Agent players.
Reminds me of the 2000s Knicks

It was just a horrible trade, by the time Garnett got to Brooklyn he had nothing left in the tank, Pierce also declined as well.
I remember people getting excited calling the Nets championship contenders when the trade went down, but I never bought it.

Didn't they also trade Damian Lillard for Gerald Wallace?

Don't tell this to El Gringos. He loves to trade picks for the elderly.

nah, it had very little to do with ainge. prokhorov / king had already been desperate to make a splash in brooklyn and were going after any big name they could. before swinging and missing for carmelo, they offered orlando FOUR #1 picks for dwight howard coming off back issues and stuff.
and yes, the nets actually do have SOME talent on their roster... since starting 0-7 and being on the road most of the time against strong reams, they have been playing surprisingly well.
the team is easily better than the 3-13 record shows, and i expect a correction soon since there is a long home stand coming up.
as for personnel, lopez is arguably the top offensive center in the league, thad young is as versatile and efficient of a PF you could ask for outside of a star, rookie RHJ is already making a strong case for best defensive wing in the league, and even the PG combo of jack and larkin have been a lot better than nets fan feared before the season.
all this while joe johnson and bogs have had horrible starts to the season.
so basically, i agree with you about the big trades and horrible signings, but the team (at least this year) is doing about as well as anyone could have imagined. boston may be very disappointed come draft lottery.

It felt like they could be a scary team headed into 2014. Now it's a joke.

It's hard to say whether you should trade for aging stars. The Celtics technically did in '08 when KG, Pierce, and Ray Allen were well into their 30s. Shaq was 34 when Miami traded for him an won the championship in '06.
I think it's more of what is the landscape of the rest of the NBA. In '08, a super team like the Miami Heat didn't exist and the Nets should've considered that Pierce and Garnett were likely not the answers to breaking that team.
I mean, not to be apologetic to the Nets. Billy King should be fired and he ****ed this team up.
Some those picks we traded away turned into some really awesome NBA players: Damian Lillard (from Gerald Wallace trade), Draymond Green (from a Brandon Wright, Dan Gadzuric for Troy Murphy and a 2nd round pick trade)... and soon to be some lottery picks to Boston.
What the **** has this guy done? Since trading away Devin Harris and Derrick Favors (two of our top 3 guys in 2012), we have ended up with Thaddeus Young and that's it. Don't get me wrong, I like Thaddeus and think he's a solid player, but not if you trace the origins of what we had to give up to get here... it's not worth it. I've seen NBA GMs get fired for much less than what Billy King has done.
I don't even want to speak of how many NBA coaches we've gone through as well. Well maybe I will Avery Johnson, Jason Kidd, Lionel Hollins, over the span of like what, 4 years? Each of these guys are pretty much the same too. Self-loving, never taking the blame, stubborn, care more about looking like a GQ model coaches. Well, Jason Kidd actually I'd give some credit for because he was able to make pretty solid in-game adjustments.... but not enough where I'd say he was a great hire.
I mean Prok needs to get off his ass and let this guy go. Billy King is just terrible. He may be the worst thing that has happened to the Nets, and I've sat through things like an 0-18 start to the season, Yinka Dare's horrendous career, Sam Bowie being our best player in the early 90s, Bruce Ratner becoming majority owner and breaking up a back-to-back ECF team, Alonzo Mourning accusing the Nets of trying to "kill" him... seriously, he may actually be the worst thing to happen in my Nets fan tenure since Drazen died.
Guy is absolutely pathetic and does not deserve a job in the NBA.
