One foot, allows you to get up quicker/on the run

Tough question. I'd lean toward GOAT one-foot jumping ability because as WayOfWade said, it allows one to get up quicker on the run. LeBron James has been able to blast through a lot of defenses over the years, particularly in transition, due to his one-foot ability.

Moreover, one-foot jumpers still tend to have pretty solid two-foot takeoff ability regardless, even if the latter isn't elite as well. Meanwhile, there's been some GOAT two-foot jumpers (Dominique Wilkins, Jason Richardson) who often seemed lost if a situation that best called for one-foot takeoffs.

Two-foot jumping is more valuable by far. No offense, but I think it's such an obvious answer that asking the question in the first place is kind of stupid.

Could you help me out with an explanation?

Two foot is useless unless you're a pf or center

with one foot, you can dunk going full speed and cover more distance.

with two feet, you can jump higher and maintain better body control.

that said, i have no clue which is better to have.

Funny how James white was chosen to represent the importance of 1 foot leaping instead of....I don't know.....lebron James or Julius Erving.

Easily the most explosive one foot leaper in basketball history.. can takeoff the furthest distance and be at rim level.. James White is the GOAT one foot leaper.

That's because he needs a running start from full-court.. :lol but still just speaking purely max height and distance covered he's unmatched.

MJ was GOAT level doing both. Another reason why he was so devastating. Check out his highlights and they are filled with him doing it both ways. He attacks the defense from anywhere on the court. Whether in transition off one foot to beat the defender to the basket or off two feet off a hop and gather to get max vert.

Most guys get max vertical off a hop and gather off two feet. So the guys who can truly excel off one foot has a leg up over most guys. So if I had to choose one, I would say one foot given the fact that most players prefer two feet. Another thing to remember about two foot jumping is that there is a slight delay in the take off as you need to gather yourself. But off one leg, you can just jump in stride.

I'm not disputing that. But if you are picturing the "GOAT" 1 foot leaper why aren't you picturing the GOAT 2 foot leaper? That would be Michael Wilson of the Memphis Tigers/Harlem Globetrotters in the 1990's. He tested 51.5" no step while at Memphis and broke multiple world records for highest rim ever dunked on.

My point isn't that it was wrong for you to put James White on the thread, it's that you took an obscure nobody for the 1 foot leaper and put him against an extremely popular all star level player as the example for 2 foot leapers. At least use the same criteria for each. The truth is, the best 1 foot and 2 foot leapers of all time were terrible at basketball, so the real question should be how important is being the highest jumper at all.
