I see this term thrown around. What does it mean? Examples?

The impression I get is that its something bad/negative. So what's it's opposite? Active aggressive?

Politely being an asshole about something.

It's when something bothers you but instead of being upfront about it, you make indirect remarks or use body language, actions and behaviour to show your dissatisfaction in a non-engaging way.

It's pretty annoying and petty, and shows a weakness in character instead of speaking your mind clearly and not letting emotions control you.

When one doesn't directly approach something/someone that bothers him and goes about it in an indirect way.

ill use basketball as an example.Say youre playing with a chucker and instead of confronting him and telling him to stop shooting. You think to yourself well since he wont pass i wont play help defense for him if he gets beat or i wont crash for boards when he shoots a bad shot even if i can probably get the rebound. If he ask me if something is wrong im too much of a bch to speak up so ill pretend like everything is ok and keep doing all this stuff

EDIT
Normally women are like this or guys who grew up with sisters or no father

Trying to subtly or indirectly display your displeasure without being direct. Example: Slamming kitchen cabinets rather than yelling or talking with the person you are mad at.

acting passive aggressive - when you dislike someone but instead of telling them up front, you do something bad to them without them knowing

eg. you dislike your neighbor who are always playing loud music every friday night. instead of telling them off, you get your dog to poop on their paper every morning.

A lot of times, people are not even conscious of their own feelings when being passive agressive. You're bitchy today, but it's not about anything that happened today, you're still pissed about something from the weekend.

Often, people on a subconscious level don't want to admit their aggressive feelings to themselves.

My mother-in-law will often ask if I want something or if I would prefer something........and what she actually means is she would like to me to do something.

The more polite a society or family you grew up, the more likely you are to exhibit passive aggression. Uncivilized little heathens rarely have to worry about it.

It's also a tendency of the powerless. Think of teenagers behaving around their parents.

Just found this clip on Comedy Central
