I was there, wasn't a Kobe fan before I went but had to give the man credit for an amazing performance. Dirk was out that game so I was just hoping for a decent game considering Kobe was the only other legitimate star for either team at the time.

With the type of zone he was in and the weak defense played by the Mavs he could have easily surpassed the 81 point game but this one was a blowout.

The crowd was pretty pissed that Kobe was taken out of the game but it was still memorable. Even more amazing was that Kobe didn't dunk once and not many layups either, just pure jump shooting.

Kobe was an elite scorer with free reign to shoot 35 times per game if he wanted to.

And he had some terrible games going like 10-35 that year.

So, you can't take the good without taking the bad...and in the end, his 2006 season was amazing but not as good as the peaks of many in the new millenium: Shaq, Duncan (03), KG (04), Lebron (09 or 2012), Durant (2014), and now Curry.

This is some hilarious shit considering Kobe doesn't even deserve half of his nods. Kobe Bryant has been an "above average" defensive player for most of his career. His best defensive season is from 2000 before he decided he needed to score 30ppg and frankly stopped putting the effort game in game out. His impact is just not there...I don't know what these Kobe stans were watching...but Kobe has for most of his career been an "above average" defensive player...not someone you'd attack, but not someone you SHOULD BE praising either. He was making the first team in 2011 when Wade wasn't even on the 2nd team...and he was a FAR SUPERIOR DEFENSIVE PLAYER. That says it all how much the all defensive team matters, now.

Curry needed 18 shots, 4 FTS..that's equivalent of 20 shots/possessions

Kobe needed 31 SHOTs, 25 FTS..that's equivalent of 43.5 shots/possessions. THATS more than DOUBLE Curry's possession time/shot attempts to score 62

But if y'all virgins were old enough to watch Kobe dropping 50s, 60s points y'all would be wankin hard!
They are both amazing for different reasons. There is no denying that Kobe dropping 62 in 3 quarters is great, but there is also no denying that the ultra efficient dropping of 40 in 3 quarters is also great. I could be wrong, but I believe Curry previously dropped 40 (or near) in 3 quarters but was not celebrated as much as the most recent time because the way he did it previously was not as efficient.
