Several people recommended this American graphic novel to me and I checked it out. It's called "Y - The Last Man" and is a lot better than I thought it would be.

I think a lot of ISH bros would like it. It's about a (plague?) that wipes out every man on earth except for this one dude and his Capuchin monkey. I immediately took that to mean that the guy THEREFORE enjoyed the world's biggest and longest p-ssy party after that, yet that's not exactly how things go. Hint: it gets a bit more Mad Max and complicated than that.

Anyway, it's pretty interesting, and the series went 60 whole issues before concluding. Thoughts?

Sadly, I don't have a web link for the last five issues. I'm not torrenting these days. If anybody wants to help, be my guest.

EDIT: none of my links are torrents, so grab them while they're fresh. i have no idea how long they will last. not to mention, try to support the artists / writers when you like a thing!

It's pretty good. If you like comics, you should really check out Cerebus and Love and Rockets if you haven't already. Some of the best writing and art ever done in comics, Love and Rockets has been going 30 years and constantly gets better and better.

Saga is better and arguably Vaughan's GOAT title..

Y is awesome. Cerebus was good for abit then went shit.

If you want something real good that's not as widely known try locke and key
Its a horrorish comic done by stephen kings son.

Bone was really cool too and RASL by the same guy who's named i forget right now

Then you've got the other great big ones like sandman and preacher. Grant morrisons animal man run was real good too. Off the top of mg head their probably my favourites.

Ive gotta get back on saga, read the first two trades but then stopped

Their making a y the last man tv show too

well, i finished "y - the last man" and am not sure i liked the last few issues all that much.

the idea that yorick and 355 got through all that shit by the skin of their teeth then discovered that they might be soulmates, only for her to be cut down at the very end, was pretty annoying. i thought that instead of killing her they could simply have left the door open for this improbable romance... leave it for a sequel series, maybe. not to mention, i didn't buy for a minute the various explanations about why the males died instantaneously. if they had merely made it a slower plague then it could have made more natural sense.

this all reminded me of other very good graphic novels that kind of petered out. for example, the similarly disappointing ending of "death note," when light yagami almost makes it past all those goody two-shoes and illogically suspicious folks, only to get cut down in the end. i mean, i respect plot twists and dark endings as much as the next guy, yet these endings were not only disappointing but just not very interesting as well.

re: jeff smith, maker of "bone" and "RASL,"
excellent, excellent stuff... not to mention the twist-ending of RASL was quite clever IMO.

btw if you liked bone, there is even more spinoff material out there. the best is probably the "rose" mini-series, which was about the backstory that set up bone. a lot of the familiar characters appear.

Thanks I'll have to check out the spin off.

I didn't mind the end of Y, it wasn't as great as I thought it could have been but it was decent imo even if it could have been thought out better.

:applause:

Great series. Highly recommend it. Like ZeN said, if you enjoy this series, this you have to read Saga, which is shaping up to be the author's best.

The final volume catches all the right feels too.

Edit: Just read your white text. Bummer that you felt that way.

thanks brokowskis for the feedback and recommends. at this time i want to update some picks of mine from earlier threads:

MURENA, books 1-8:
http://mycomicpost.com/?p=113259

The story begins in ancient Rome during the reign of Emperor Claudius. The Emperor fell in love with a young woman, leaving alone the terrible Agrippina and her adopted son, the future Emperor Nero. After Claudius was murdered, Nero ascends the throne and becomes the prey of madness, real or imagined, that consumes him. Through these episodes, we see how Nero, by a combination of circumstances, becomes more and more evil. A game of manipulation and revenge begins...

...

and another very nice series about warfare, alliances and betrayal set in the roman classical period... specifically the days of augustus caesar and tiberius caesar i believe.

this is an excellent detective story / murder mystery and unraveling of a conspiracy running in to the highest levels of govt set in late 1800's england. art, plot and story-telling are just fabulous.

today's theme is that of the talented young jewish guy stuck in a hostile land. we have these two superb series:

...

a jew in communist prague-- set amidst the cold war of the 1950's in eastern bloc europe, a boy's father is tossed in to prison for no real reason and he and his mother are forced to survive any way they can. a couple years pass and he meets a girl whose friends are involved in resistance literature. they fall in to a dangerous and unlikely romance, seeing as how her father is an important soviet diplomat.

books 1-3:
http://europeanclassiccomic.blogspot.com/2015/12/a-jew-in-communist-prague.html

...

once upon a time in france-- a rumanian jew and his young wife are stuck in france during the NAZI occupation. he has a knack for scrap metal deals and improbably manages to build a complex web of business and politics involving virtually all the players in the game, from the gestapo to the local govt, to the resistance. similar to an oskar schindler, he saves many lives and works against the germans while he can, amassing large amounts of money and forced to spend large amounts of money in order to keep the machinery functioning. of course his high-wire, tightrope act cannot last in the end.

Sandman is amazing. If it weren't a comic/graphic novel it'd be more widely recognised for how good it is.

I've been reading idws current transformers series lately. Not as deep as what gigantes been posting but they are fun and do a good job adding depth and story to an ip that was purely created to sell toys. There's two series, more than meets the eye is particularly good and surprisingly funny.its basically a bunch of less serious characters flying around in space getting in to whacky adventures

well i'm basically an older guy who spent many years on marvel / DC / superhero stuff. these days i tend to like indy / euro / historical stuff, but that's just me.

this thread is supposed to be about your favorite stuff, so don't mind my fogey-arse. share your faves!

having said that, i've had a hard time with alan moore and i'm not sure WTF that is. from what i understand, he's been the top american comics writer for ages. i tried to get in to sandman and "from hell," but i guess maybe i was used to faster-pacing and it didn't work out. what would you guys recommend for me?

...

btw i meant to post this webcomic a while back-- inkdolls.com

it's set in modern-day spain and mainly revolves around two cousins who walk the line between being nymphos and straight-laced. probably the sweetest, cutest version of a NSFW that you'll ever read.

That first graphic novel was probably inspired by Matheson's, "I'm Legend".
