Shaking my head. Saw his name pop up on the Trending tab on Twitter and already knew exactly what was it was going to be. Dude never, ever seemed to be able to shake his demons.
What a bummer :-\

You knew Scott Weiland wasn't going to live till a ripe old age, I'm surprised he lived this long. His music was horrible but it's still sad to see him fade to dark.

The very first piece of music I ever purchased with my own money was Core by Stone Temple Pilots on cassette (along with A Pocketful of Kryptonite by The Spin Doctors).
A few years later, I bought my first four CDs: Metallica's Black Album, GNR's Appetite for Destruction...and both Core and Purple by Stone Temple Pilots.
Those are the first two records I learned to play front to back on the drums. Great groove to those records.
Sad thing is...saw this death coming from miles away. Sucks when people never find peace in life as a result of chemical slavery and poor choices. RIP Scott.

STP was a formative band for me as a kid too. I was just coming to that age where cool mattered when the grunge scene hit, and in the beginning they were cool, until the backstories about record company assembly came out, but by that point they were already cool to me. And frankly those first couple albums were damn good regardless. I also enjoyed Velvet Revolver for it's sort of retro 80s rock feel. It came along when rock was really dieing, and it didn't feel as morbid as most of the scene at the time. Although the catalog was thin. I saw VR in concert once in a small venue. And I saw STP a couple times. All were good experiences to one degree or another.
But absolutely this can't be a surprise to anyone.

This is the truth. One of the reasons I liked the guy so much, even when I wasn't fond of the work, was because he was a genuine, bonafied, real life rockstar frontman. And during that era, those guys weren't always easy to find. They were fighting depression, or ticketmaster, or MTV, or whatever. Scott Weiland was running around on stage in a dress.

Yeah. Not surprising in the least.
Just happy I saw STP and VR a couple times each.

OMG, The Stone Temple Pilots were the greatest band in the history of the World.
Only joking, they sucked ass. Better than Coldplay though. It should have been Chris Martin.

He never got to make up with the other STP guys either. They weren't talking to each other the last time I read about them
They've been on tour several times since their initial break up.

Just learned that Linkin Park's Chester Bennington was the singer for STP for a while and just parted way a month ago.

If your nearing 50 you really shouldn't give yourself good odds of coming out of a 4 day crack bender alive.
