Wanna know another one? Here ya go

Kobe's career TS% is .552.

League average is .531

League leaders are around .700,

.552 would have ranked 66th percentile last year.

SHOOT KOBE SHOOT!

braces for "rent free" "meltdown" "recycled gif" "crying kobe fans"

Aww I know it hurts to see individual statistical measures

Sorry, child, championships aren't "relevant" in "ranking players", it's a team accomplishment :lol

But lets use your "relevant" logic, shall we?

The larger the sample size the more accurate +/- becomes. Not a be all end all like you said, but it's a very good indicator

Kobe is more a top 20-25 player of all time. Ive always said this and some of his fans get mad. He was like a less efficient version of MJ. Which is still quite good though.

Yes and no. Yes it's more accurate. However do we care or want to weight the last 5 year's of shaq's career the same as the rest of his career?

Kobe Bryant is the most overrated defensive player of all time. That's a fact.

Well harden has a smaller sample size (larger variance and error rate), is in his prime, where as we've got all of kobe's bad years in this stat. So the stat isn't really saying Harden is a better defender directly here.

True...but I still think that misses something.

We all know that Kobe, when he tries, was a far better defender than other guys higher on that list like Harden.

So why is he so low?

Part of it is simply variance and error, but I think a large part of it is that Kobe simply took an inordinate amount of defensive plays off throughout his career.

This is why Kobe's defense is so hard to truly gauge...when he really locked in and tried...he was good to very good. Problem is...he didn't do that consistently enough and it shows up in these numbers.

Now, I think it's fair to say Kobe's defense is better than these numbers suggest because he had the ability to ramp up his defense and impact games in a way a lot of other guards/players higher than him really couldn't.

But, because he didn't consistently put effort in on defense for the majority of his career...and just took plays off...he defensive measures are poor.

So, in this case, the stat actually is a little biased against Kobe. Now, I'm not defending his decision to take so many defensive possessions off, but you have to use some context with these numbers for Kobe because he should get a little boost for his ability to ramp up the defense.

In my opinion of course...

im not a fan of pure stats. i mean they are good, especially if you have them for a longer time span, but there are so many facets of the game who cant be recorded by statistics.

I wouldn't say super inefficient but he was defiantly not efficient.

You can be inefficient and still be creating great looks for your team, rebounding, playing good defense.

Efficiency is great and has gotten very popular recently but people need to understand that efficiency doesn't always translate to impact in a linear fashion.

So by the same token, should we finally start acknowledging that Duncan was surrounded with amazing talent in Tony and Manu shining in the precious advanced stats? Or does it only hold weight when it's about Kobe?

Nash, Harden, Kobe negatives on defense...

emmmm, noticing a pattern? Guys that either are limited ability wise (Nash) or don't give a shit (Harden/Kobe), simply aren't good defenders... keep spamming his defensive times though.

Manu year in year out leading the RAPM ranks
