Any doctors in the house?
I currently have an ear infection in one ear and this could be the cause, but this morning I went to tie on my new pair of Ewing's and I tumbled to the floor in a spell of dizziness. I haven't been this dizzy since my college days.
Should I be worried? I thought it could be a stroke, but I immediately recited the Pledge of Allegiance in front of a mirror without missing a beat.
Where you live in New York I'll handle this boys

Go to the doctor and get the ear infection treated.
Assuming you're not trolling, your sense of balance is located in your ear.

What Causes Dizziness?
Vertigo can be caused by many things:
Infection, such as the ones that cause the common cold or diarrhea, can cause temporary vertigo via an ear infection. This inner ear infection is generally viral, harmless, and usually goes away in one to six weeks, but drugs are available if it is severe.

Balance and equilibrium hinges on the ear and it's intricacies.
Not surprised an infection would cause dizziness or your equilibrium to be thrown off to a way you're not used to.
I'd imagine you won't have any issues with it once the infection goes away unless you have a permanent injury or abrasion to the ear.

How long did the dizzy spell last, and are there any continuing symptoms (and if so how long since any symptoms began)

Vision too. I do balance board exercises on something similar to this

I'm steadiest when I focus on looking at point in the distance. I've tried closing my eyes, but I go off balance almost immediately.

Yes - doc here reporting for ISH.
Was it provoked from head movement? How long did it last? Did you see the room spin or did you feel like you were spinning? Have you had any trauma to your head lately? Any changes to your medication? How's your blood pressure? any thyroid issues? Do you experience headaches? If so - how long?
Does rolling in bed or laying in bed cause dizziness? How about coming up?
Edit: Feel free to PM me if you choose to keep this between us.

It was pretty bad this morning went I went to tie my Ewing's on. The room started spinning and I tumbled downward. It also happened when I looked up towards the ceiling.
I do have high blood pressure too. My diet is pretty shitty.

Already posted but an ear infection can cause vertigo. Orthostatic hypotension is possible. That's when you have a significant drop in blood pressure from a sitting position to standing position. Do you take meds for your high blood pressure? Were there other symptoms or just dizziness? Go see your doctor. Get that ear infection cleared up, worse case is this is just the beginning signs of something far worse.

No other symptoms. Just went to tie my shoes in the crouched position and the room started spinning and I hit the floor.
High Blood Pressure runs in the family. That Spanish temper and hot blood in all of us I suppose.
I do notice that when I stretch with my arms raised up real high, I tend to get woozy. Is that just the blood being restricted to my head??
I have some meds for the ear infection, but I haven't gone to a regular doctor in years.

Hmm, raising your arms and feeling woozy. That could involve the central nervous system. Perhaps some sort of stenosis or a blood vessel, which is a narrowing of the blood vessel. The dizziness could be from a lack of oxygen to the brain. Lack of blood flow will cause this. I heard spinal injuries can do this too, that's if you ever hurt your back. When I was a medic on the field we used vagal maneuvers to slow down the heart, this could make you feel like passing out. Not sure if due to a nerve this could cause that feeling.

Not really... Qtip will cause conductive loss and can be easily repaired with a tympanoplasty. Viral infections in the ear is permanent sensorineural loss and possibly labyrinthitis which could cause total loss of all balance and hearing function without steroid and antibiotics.
The fact that it's transient 'vertigo' provoked with head motion makes me lean towards BPPV. labyrinthitis/neuritis would be constant non-transient vertigo. He wouldnt be online...
