Sad to hear the news, but glad he made it all the way to 87. Good, long life. The news of his passing moves him ahead of Kobe alltime tbh. RIP.

RIP to a great one. Glad he lived so long, so many athletes die too young.

Interesting. It never dawned on me that Danny Schayes was his son.

How about Dolph being the 2nd best PF in NBA history in terms of FT% (if you don't consider Bird or Vandeweghe PF's). With the best PF being Dirk, and with Jack Sikma being the only center above Dolph (by 1 spot) and the best FT shooting C.

He shot 90.4% from the FT-line on close to 10 attempts in two separate regular-seasons :applause:

Dolph Schayes was like the white Karl Malone of the 50s. He could knock down the mid range jumper, and he could drive to the basket.

He was the best player of 1950's after Mikan and Pettit . Cousy gets overrated with his team accomplishments but Arizin and Dolph cleary great players as Cousy .

Also the long range jumper, which would benefit him a lot had there been a 3 point line. I can recall reading an article from the early 60's where he said the league should add an incentive to shoot from distance.
