Because he's been the best player on the Spurs since 07, until Kawhi's emergence.

that's like asking why Lakers fan hate Pau Gasol because he's been the best player on the Lakers since 08.

REAL Spurs fans don't hate Tony Parker.

Only insecure Duncan Stans like TLP hate on him because they want to try to elevate Duncan's sidekick/roleplayer rings to something they aren't.

So they downplay the fact that Tony Parker was the Spurs best player (Finals MVP) in 2007 and that Duncan hasn't been their best player in a decade. And that Parker was the main driving force of the Spurs up until Leonard emerged and the acquisition of Aldridge.

laughable

even if we accept it as true, how many championships/finals did they go to during that span?

Two, and it wasn't because of Duncan if that's what some of these laughable posts imply about Tony.

Parker wasn't the focal point of The Spurs just two years ago? The revisionism is astounding.

Hate is a strong word, but I've had problems with Parker because in the past he's been a huge ballstopper, uncommitted to staying in shape, and not being able to lead the team when he was asked to (09-11, the time he spent sexting a teammates wife, making awful rap music and calling his team a non-contender).

Also, I've seen you specifically say Parker was the best player in 07 but you've never made any sort of case. If you're just going by Finals MVP, then Duncan is automatically > Kobe because he has more than him. :facepalm

Other than that, what case is there for Parker in 07, or from 07-current as a matter of fact? In that time Duncan averages 18.5/10.5/3/2 on .535 TS% in the Playoffs. Tony averages 19/3/6 on .525 TS%. When you factor in Duncan being an elite defender and Tony being a pretty shitty one, again, I don't see what your case is.

That said, Kawhi has been our best player in the past few years. That much is obvious.

Difference is real Laker fans love Gasol and know how valuable he was to our championship run from 08-10. What's The Spurs fans excuse for some of these sickening posts pretending Tony hasn't been the guy for The Spurs? :biggums:

americans hate the french

parker was the spurs leader in mvp shares like 5 straight years

finals mvp in 2007.

could have easly been named finals mvp instead of kawhi in 2014

one of the most underrated players ever

even as 2nd year player he started for the spurs and averaged 16/5 during the year they won the title in 03

any legit 4 time champion with a finals mvp as his teams main ball handler deserves a ton of credit

americans need to let this french shit go and accept him as the best point guard over the last 10 years. not chris paul

because their backcourt has been the key to san antonio's success for almost a decade now.

duncan = role player for at least 4 seasons & counting, while manu & tony have steered the ship that's landed their team year-after-year success.

for whatever reason, duncan fans don't hate manu though. maybe its because he comes off the bench and it masks the impact he brings to the table? however if those idiots looked at rapm (pure unabated impact) for the last 7 or so years, they would see manu's been the spurs' best offensive player via net impact.

now you're seeing the uprising of kawhi - but he blossomed at the right place and time. where duncan is now a complete shell of himself physically and can no longer be considered the best spurs player even by the most inordinate of duncan fans.

crazily enough, that didn't stop some of those parasites from giving him FULL credit for the spurs' title in 2014. :oldlol:

This is the most bizarre thing about the whole situation, no matter what happens on the court Spurs fans find a way to make it seem like Duncan is the reason they won or were even in those Finals to begin with. That massive choke job in 2013 though? nothing to do with him.

good point. he even gets FULL credit for making the 2013 finals. :oldlol:

why do you think his fans place him at PF and not C? the former actually has an arguable GOAT moniker next to it. :facepalm

I'm not sure I'm a spurs fan per say but I certainly do like them a lot and follow them closer than other teams.

For starters there is no argument in the world for Parker over Duncan in 07.

Duncan 26.1 PER 13 WS 6.3 VORP 2726 MP
Parker 21.4 PER 9.6 WS 3 VORP 2499 MP

Playoffs
Duncan 27.4 PER 3.3 WS 1.7 VORP 736 MP
Parker 18.7 PER 1.6 WS .5 VORP 751 MP

Those numbers aren't even remotely close. Duncan was unquestionably the better player.

2008 Duncan and parker were a bit worse but the gap is similar.

2009 Parker does have a case over Duncan.

2010 Parker was hurt and was awful in the playoffs. Duncan was better than near nearly by default, but we're still talking about a 24.7 PER 4.7 VORP and 10.9 WS in 2438 MP.

2011-13 were close enough that you can make a case for Parker.

But 07 08 10 just aren't on the table.

Can you define focal point? I've never see a spurs defensive setup where other players over played the ball knowing parker was behind them to bail them out of the player got by. I'm wondering if you only are discussing half the game?

Parker was arguably been the best PG in the league after Steve Nash got old, but of course Chris Paul is all hype.

Why has the French national team almost always played better without Tony Parker?

The two issues are pretty much intertwined.

I like Tony Parker as a player. I always have. But he can really disrupt a team's chemistry.

You Laker fans now have no choice but to try to overrate Parker to discredit Duncan. But keep trying. Spurs fans know the main reason why there are 5 banners hanging in their rafters and it ain't Tony Parker.
