View Full Version : Spurs need to avoid playing OKC Thunder in the Second Round

There are a few ways this realistically happens:

1. They get the 4th seed.
2. They get the 1st seed.
3. OKC drops back to the 4/5

If they have to go through OKC and GSW then it is going to be really tough. Anyone think the Spurs have a chance of avoiding a second round GSW matchup?

Every team needs to avoid a match-up with the Thunder

If they want an easy road to the championship then they need to get first place seed. That is how it works.

Should be concerned. Durant Westbrook best 1&2 duo in nba

gsw will get another easy route to a ring

Play a crap team like utah or phx
Play a declining fake team like clippers or grizzlies
Play a tired okc or spurs.

Play a tired team from a tough eastern conference.

Not fair.

You had me until that line. :oldlol:

Getting the #1 seed out West is important. That would probably mean Utah/Dallas/Memphis in the 1st, Clippers/Rockets in the 2nd, and winner of Spurs/Thunder in the WCF. Hardly and easy path, but definitely manageable.

Spurs would kill them in the paint. Soft ass Kanter will be their downfall.

:facepalm on many levels.

Spurs would wipe the floor with the Thunder even if Ibaka turned into Hakeem.

Durant defended that like a high school player would, reach multiple times and then being blown by a spin move. Atrocious...

It's Westbrooke who scares me - not Durant. We have Kwahi to defend Durant, but Parker has to guard Westbrooke and that's not gonna end well. OKC's athleticism always bothers Spurs.

Durant and Westbrook scare me - not Ibaka.

Duncan did whatever he wanted with him in that G6 OT. Ibaka is a very mediocre man defender and the Spurs are aware of it.

I don't know why SAS would need to avoid anyone. They are pretty clearly the 2nd best team in the land and haven't even fully integrated their new pieces into the mix.

And GSW appear likely to face LAC in the 2nd round (who were ahead by double digits with 6:00 to play in both their two matchups) and SAS in the Conf Finals before running into a motivated LeBron. All three of those matchups would be significantly more difficult than any matchup they had last season.

Its pretty evident that GSW are starting to pay the price for caring a little too much about November and December regular season games. With Barnes out, Klay with a bad ankle, Dray and Steph with unrealistic long term burdens, etc.

If you don't think LAC or SAS could possibly beat Golden State I think you are grossly underestimating those two teams.
