One was a helicopter captain in the US airforce, he was too young for WWII combat but was in the Korean war later and Vietnam. He ended his career as a Lt colonel.

The other was in the Canadian navy I believe, also in the pacific theater I believe, but I could be wrong there.

Don't know exact details as I never asked. The airforce grandpa was big in to the military, the Canadian navy grandpa only went because he was drafted I believe and wasn't as high up the ranks.

Both gramps are dead now, RIP

Grandfather on Dad's side was Seaman on board the USS Saratoga in the Pacific campaign; he was at Iwo Jima and nearly died there when kamikaze pilots started bombing the ship with some success. He eventually made Petty Officer 1st Class after the war. Died unexpectedly in 1966 of a heart attack while serving as SK1 aboard the USS Forrest Sherman during a cruise of the Mediterranean.

Other grandfather didn't serve (too young for WW2) but in an interesting twist, his oldest son (my uncle) enlisted and served on the Forrest Sherman 15 years after the father of his future brother-in-law served.
