View Full Version : ISH Help: Need to buy a new car

I'm switching jobs, start on the 20th of Feb so I have a bit of time, but I will no longer have a company car, the new job will have a car allowance (18k per year on top of my salary + fuel card)

It needs to be professional, but the catch is it cannot be above 3 litres in engine size (due to the fuel card)

Any suggestions? I live in New Zealand so won't have as much access to certain cars.

Ones that im thinking of are the Mazda 6 or the Audi A4

I'd get the Mazda over the Audi.

I'd get the Mazda over the Audi.

The Mazda comes with a good care package, Audi is the standard 3 year service deal.

The Audi is:
-Better looking
-More comfortable/superior interior
-More practical
-Probably better safety

If quattro is within your price range, its an absolute no brainer

BTW, have you taken test drives yet?

Audi is a Volkswagen with makeup. Totalt sucks nowadays.. If you aiming for a premium car rather go with a bmw.

I currently have a Volvo S80 and I like it a lot. My company gave me a 40k EUR budget and I got this for around 36k with lots of optional equipment. It's a good looking car, comfortable and with really good performance. Mine's the D4 version (180ish hp diesel, automatic, AWD, good fuel economy), but there are several engine options to choose from. It's comparable to Audi while more affordable (than an Audi of similar specs, that is), you might want to look into it.

You mean the luxury form of VW. And no, Audi has been blowing out BMW for several years.

Next year I'll be a business development manager for DHL

Maybe you can get them to stop ****ing up our shipments.

Congrats on the job though!

But... watch your cornhole, man.

PARIS — France’s competition regulator has fined 20 package delivery companies, including the French operations of FedEx and DHL, a total of 672 million euros ($1,012 billion Cdn.) for colluding on price increases over a period of six years.

I'm partial to Mazda because it's what I've driven mostly. I have an unreasonable love for Mazda.

The Mazda 6 is a nice car, though nobody in here will tell you to get it over the other cars mentioned.

There's a reason why all my car-crazy friends tout Audi. I'd listen to the car nuts.

If it was my car, the Mazda. But since it isn't, get the audi A4

I'd get the Audi since its with the companies money. A few questions about your job though. What degree(s) do you have? How difficult was getting that job? How difficult is the actual job?

Is the maintenance covered?
Audi's have high maintenance cost, as do BMW's.

So after your 3 year has expired, you could be looking at a high expense.
