Scoring champs who were First Team All-Defense:

JORDAN: 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998
BRYANT: 2006, 2007
WEST:... 1970

These seasons must be ranked in the top tier of best individual seasons ever because of their recognized, "best-in-the-league", two-way performance.

The only player that was ever scoring champ and DPOY in same season was MJ in 1988.. AND he was mvp that season.

Pop, the GOAT coach, recently said Kawhi wanted to be the two-way player because it's the hardest to achieve

'09 Wade got shafted out of joining that. He finished 3rd in DPOY but didn't make All-Defensive First Team

Also, using Kobe's All-Defensive selections as singular proof of him being the better defender is disingenuous. You could then make the argument he was a better defender than Pippen, Payton, Frazier etc

No, it was a fact he finished 3rd in DPOY voting in '09. How that doesn't translate to making All-Defensive First Team, I don't know

That's why 3balls little post is bullshit. Kobe didn't deserve to be 1st team all defense in 06 or 07. The all defensive team in general has become one huge clusterf@ck over the last 10 years.

all defensive teams suggest kobe bryant is at worst the 2nd greatest perimeter defender to have ever played the sport

:biggums: How the hell did I miss this the first time I read this thread? Your stupidity knows no bounds. Not even the rest of the kobe stan clowns would make such an awful assertion and try to argue that Kobe was a better defender than Pip and Payton.

Hey guys big time New Orelans fan and also a fan of the Cavaliers as well checking in here. I have to say that the proof is in the pudding when it comes to these defensive selection teams and that while LeBron is a great offensive player, his defensive impact has been overstated very often as well. LeBron plays out of position sort of like how Magic Johnson did in order to gain an advantage offensively but he does this at the sacrifice of their defense. LeBron has deceived a lot of us over the years with his dramatic chase down blocks but those are the plays that stick out in our memory that is being viewed though rose tinted glasses. For every chase down block there is at least one of these...(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ta_UvRQKaQ). LeBron is a great player and I still am a fan even after The Decision but he really needs to step it up with his two way play if he ever wants to bring a title home to Cleveland.

So ridiculous. Wade is voted as the best defensive guard in the league, yet is inexplicably left off first team all-D. Almost as bad as 2011 when Wade had better numbers across the board, was a significantly better defender, had a better team record, and was second team all-NBA. What a joke.

Wade wasn't on the all-defensive team in 2011 at all while Kobe was again first team...yeah, exactly. Pretty much everyone's opinion on Kobe in 2011 was that he was weak defensively...yet there is, first team all nba again. On the other hand? The Heat were top 5 defensively in 2011 with Wade and Lebron being the two best defensive players, but Wade doesn't even make 2nd team. It's impossible for me to take the all-defensive team selections seriously anymore.

Kobe, at the most crucial moments, was the greatest perimeter defender in NBA history along with Jordan.

Jordan had to score 30ppg and was a significantly better and more consistent defensive player than Kobe was. What is your excuse for that?

Wade was dropping 30ppg and 8apg in 09 while being one of the best defensive players in the league. Kobe in 06? Average. What is your excuse for that?

There's plenty of players with huge loads offensively that were still great defensively. Kobe's best defensive season was in 2000 BEFORE he decided upstaging Shaq and scoring 30ppg was more important than giving a consistent effort on the defensive end. He has never been a player who was elite on both ends of the floor at the same time for a season.

I also love how both you and latch onto my Jordan remark, but completely avoid the Wade one...fitting. What could you say? You know Wade was a much better defensive player than Kobe in 09. Frankly, you could legitimately say Wade was a better defensive player every single season since he came into the league. Anyway, it's pointless to argue with you two knuckleheads when you don't know anything about basketball, so that's it for me.

Wade isn't even a blip on our radar, dude. You're a Heat fan, we get it.

But Kobe is so far ahead of Wade on the all time list, that we don't even see Wade in our rear view mirror. Wade is nobody to us.
