James is never going to be considered the greatest ever by the majority of basketball fans. Right now Steph Curry has overtaken him as the best and most popular player and James was never viewed as the GOAT before by the general public. Unless Curry keeps up his current level for another 5 years no one is coming for MJ's title any time soon.

That might be true but you have to come really far to get close. MJ has 6 rings to James's 2 and that really has kept the discussion from getting serious.
