Not going after a legit perimeter scorer with an elite jumpshot 3-4 years ago is what doomed them.

It's funny to think this team made the WCF just two years ago, even though Westbrook was injured in their series against OKC

Trading Rudy Gay was stupid now looking back

In the short term it appeared to pay off, but as we've seen with the Kings, Rudy is still very effective if used right.

They had OJ mayo and Rudy Gay at one point

They've done some questionable trades

Yeah they didn't keep enough talent around. But more than anything is the old saying that "if you aren't getting better you're getting worse". They just counted on chemistry and their core to last forever.

They've done some questionable tradesOJ Mayo is meh, Gay was a weird trade cuz they got an old Tayshaun Prince basically for him and throwaway players. Grizzlies also lost Wayne Ellington, Tony Wroten, and Speights :/

they got better when they traded Rudy Gay away

they just needed to replace him with a legit shooter, not Tayshaun Prince.
