I wish to nominate the small town of Deadwood, South Dakota for most badass tough guy town in America. This small town meets the qualifications of badassdom in so many different ways, it is an American jewel.

Deadwood, SD is located in the Black Hills mountain region of the state and has a population of about 1200 people. You might be familiar with the name Deadwood from the Showtime wild west series, "Deadwood." It was filmed there.
In Deadwood, there is only one road in and out of the town. The town square looks like something out of the past, with Saloons and gun shops lining the streets. Almost all residents of Deadwood are packing heat. In South Dakota, a concealed carry permit costs $10, they use only the federal background check, and you can also easily apply for an OPEN carry permit and wear that ish on a holster out in public, Yosemite Sam style.
Deadwood is known for being a frequent stomping ground for hordes of biker gangs. It's a pit stop to get drunk, buy some guns and get in good old fashioned bar fights.

Many of the residents of Deadwood live "off the grid," in cabins that lack lines for water, sewer, gas, and or electricity. In winter months, the average low is 13 degrees Fahrenheit.

Off the grid residents have to fend off animals such as thousand pound bison, badgers, coyote packs, elk, and mountain lions. Deadwood is also home to the Prairie Rattlesnake, a rattlesnake that literally can't rattle to warn you it's coming.

For recreation, Deadwoodians visit places that go by the names of the Devil's Tower, Roughneck Falls, and Badlands National Park. Even their tourist attractions ooze toughness.
