35/11/6 on 52 FG%. Basically GOAT.

Let's just say Bill Russell wouldn't be shaking a player's hand every June.

This is why I don't rate players from the 50s and 60s high on the all-time chart. If those guys played in the 80s, 90s, or 00s, they'd be awful.

That dude in the 60s vid looks and dribbles like Austin Rivers.

I don't know but I do know they'd rename the league (ARBL) (Austin Rivers Basketball league).
His dominance over those 5 foot midgets would be unpareeled.

Man I watched that video at least 50 times back in 2011

Austin Rivers was an absolute monster in HS. One of my fave HS players of all time

His games used to be on espnU too, the hype was too strong

We have to consider that he'd be playing by 60's rules and style. He'd also have 60's coaching, training methods, training facilities, nutrition, and he'd be playing in Chuck Taylor's. There would be no 3 point line and he wouldn't be allowed to palm or carry the ball.

With all of that in mind, as first option on a bad team I'd say he'd average about 20/6/5 on 41%.

By 60's rules he traveled on every single play in that video. Just worth pointing that out plus those 3's would be worth 2. Add in those were on ball "highlights" which don't show us anything about his game what so ever.

HOFer.

Basketball was primitive back in the 60s.

The game has certainly evolved, as have players. With that in mind, would Rivers be anything like he is today if he played in the 60's? The natural ability would still be there, but he'd be a very different player. As another poster mentioned, many of his current moves would be a travelling or carrying violation in the 60's. There was also no 3 point line. The game was played differently, coached differently, and officiated differently.

It's a logical fallacy to assume any modern player would be exactly the same if they played in another era. That's one of the reasons it's tough to compare players accross eras. It's better to compare how they performed relative to their competition.

Too many of them in fact were not awful vs 80s players to say that. Bigmen especially.

Guys like Elvin Hayes were nba age in like 1965(they all finished school back then). He was putting up 23/11 in the league with Bird and Magic. Hell when he was 36 in the 2 games vs the Celtics he outscored Bird, Mchale, and Parish in both games. Ive seen him put in work vs a young prime 20/11 Bill Cartwright. Ive seen him working Moses Malone. Hayes was 35 yeard old playing as an equal with guys who were in the NBA in the 90s. I have some shitty footage of him eating up Cavs run Bill Laimbeer. He later had a 20 point night vs Pistons Laimbeer. In the second to last game of his career Elvin had 16/17/11 vs two bigmen who played till 1988.....one of them hall of famer Artis Gilmore.

Elvin was 38 at the time and had played 2400 more minutes in his career than Kobe has now. That triple double was in game number 1302 of his career. Coincidentally Kobes last game was his #1303.

Point being....Elvin was old and on his last legs. Still handing out triple doubles vs quality 80s players. Elvin had 40 point games vs people who were still starting in 1995.

Hell Elvins backup on the Bullets was still in the NBA in 1999.

And its not like Elvin was the best bigman of his day.

Guards improved a lot more than bigmen have.

And we can still find examples of such guards performing well vs 80's guys (see: Havlicek).
Lots of ISH's (and not only) abilities at recognizing talent which didn't belong to their era is awful.
