Here are the 1983 playoff highs for rebounding:

23, Moses Malone, Philadelphia at Los Angeles, May 31
20, Dan Roundfield, Atlanta at Boston, April 19
20, Artis Gilmore, San Antonio at Los Angeles, May 10
19, Moses Malone, Philadelphia at Los Angeles, May 29
18, Artis Gilmore, San Antonio vs. Los Angeles, May 20
18, Moses Malone, Philadelphia vs. Los Angeles, May 22

The same thing applies to the 1984 playoffs. He lost on the boards basically every night.

Um yeah...
so Kareem's games against Malone in the 83 Finals went like this
outrebounded by Malone 4-18
outrebounded by Malone 4-12
outrebounded by Malone 15-19
outrebounded by Malone 7-23

He was not rebounding well by the 80s.

You're aware that Artis Gilmore was 33 1/2?

Yes , that is correct . Kareem got old after 81 and he hadn't energy for high rebounding efforts . Moses was also one of the greatest rebounders in history .

I'll be honest, if we toss out the prehistoric guys (wilt and russel) moses is almost unquestionably the greatest rebounder in the modern history of the nba, all due respect to Rodman.

I'd say Rodman is a better rebounder than Malone and Malone is a slightly better offensive rebounder.

Third greatest rebounder after Rodman and Wilt at nba history.

Bitter bucks fan detected :lol

Seriously though Kareem was not only very old but as some posters have already alluded to Moses Malone and Artis Gilmore were some of the most physically imposing rebounders of all time. Those guys were no joke. Think of a DeMarcus Cousins with endless motor and hustle and a larger Dwight Howard. That is what Malone and Gilmore were on the boards.

Cause Wilt better rebounder .

Russell put up almost equal rebounding numbers and he's much shorter and lighter than Wilt

He played at the same pace during the same era

They are close but Wilt better . Actually , Wilt had better rebound numbers than Russell by small margin.

No , he was great rebounder in his prime . Top 10-15 all time caliber .

Then consider this, in Kareems first 10 years he grabbed 11,460 boards for an average of 14.8 per game. In 75-76 he won the rebounding title with a 16.9 average per game. In his prime he was a beast.

Yeah, and then dovetailed off like crazy

One of my main points is that it's odd seeing him at #3 on the career list

Some rebounders who are easily better than Kareem

Rodman
Russell
Wilt
Moses Malone
Barkley
Nate Thurmond
Dwight Howard
