If MJ had been double and triple teamed from half court, and held all the time like Curry, he would have been lucky to average 20 in his prime

Curry would put up 50 + against the defense MJ faced

Jordan's jumpshot was better than Curry's from inside 20 feet:

.....................MJ 1997 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/893/stats/shooting/?Season=1996-97&SeasonType=Regular%20Season)...................Cur ry 2015 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201939/stats/shooting/?Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season)............ Curry 2016 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201939/stats/shooting/)

5-9 ft.......... 49.2%, 126 fga........... 40.3%, 72 fga.......... 54.8%, 31 fga

10-14 ft....... 51.5%, 466 fga........... 52.9%, 85 fga.......... 50.0%, 22 fga

15-19 ft....... 49.5%, 594 fga........... 43.9%, 132 fga........ 44.4%, 45 fga

Overall midrange % (all shots inside the 3-point line but outside the paint)

JORDAN 1997: 49.3%, 1202 fga
CURRY.. 2015: 41.1%, 285 fga
CURRY.. 2016: 43.8%, 73 fga

Anyone who disagrees that MJ was a better shooter inside 20 feet must explain why Curry shoots FAR worse percentage inside 20 feet.. :confusedshrug:

Apparently, you'll say anything - those stats are from 1997 when MJ was 33 and 34 years old.

MJ's best shooting years were 1988-1993, particularly 1991 - that's when he shot 55% and had 125 ORtg...

His ORtg increased to an AMAZING 127 in the 1991 playoffs.. goat

It'd be crazy, game would mostly depend on who gets ball 1st. Curry has zero chance of stopping any version of Mj. While Mj could be shellshocked by a dude with such range and moves to get his shot off from litterally anywhere in the gym. Mj would win most of the matchups but id imagine curry could steal a few, he's an elite baller.

Because people tend to amalgamize all his stats and attritubes as if it all occured at once. Just like any player there are different versions of Mj. Young Mj was more capable of locking curry up but wasn't the shooter that older, smarter 2nd 3peat Mj was. So it matters in the sense of specifying what curry would be up against. Citing Mjs 1997 shooting stats also suggest a past prime Mj less capable of locking up curry......get it?

Yeah I picked up on that when I watched him in 97 and 98. MJ was obviously a better player before he retired for the first time, but he hadn't developed his fadeaway yet to the point where he used it exclusively during games, so I would fathom that he was a better shooter in the second three peat. He might be the most accurate shooter ever from about 20 feet in.

But I must harken back to the point that if it were early MJ he would just beat Curry on drives because he had one of the quickest first steps on any player. He used this to great effect as early as his rookie year.

ie. he crossed up Dennis Johnson and then beat the whole Celtics team quite a few times in his early years

Jordan would have a far better chance of "embarrassing" Curry than the other way around. While Jordan can definitely get some stops on Curry, which of Jordan's tools is Curry going to stop with his not-so-great defense? Jordan would be able to blow by Curry most of the time, and on a post up? Forget about it. Dumb thread is dumb. Amusing...but dumb, lol

Bro have you seen Warriors games where Curry gets switched on to a plqyer in the post bigger then him. He gets back down and scored on real easily. This is why they hide him. He would never force Mj to do something he doesn't want too. He would just back him down for the easy too. While Mj is known to guard speedy PG and can be physical and rip tje ball from him. Watch how Bos and Pistons guarded Curry.

Both version of Mj would give him a tough outing. Mj was still guarding PG even 2nd 3peat and your forgetting Mj has quick hands. and taller. He like top 4 alltime in stls and only played 15 seasons retired twice. Look how Bradley and the Pistons guarded Steph. Also look how Kawhi guarded him the past two years when he switched on him.

I watched him, and i disagree. I think 1st 3peat Mj was a strong pull up jump shooter, but his outside jumper wasn't as reliable. His post turnaround even pretty much had different form altogether back then. 2nd 3peat basically lived in the mid range, refined post turnaround to the point it was nearly automatic. While not losing his pull up jumper and increasing his range, especially with the 3point line moved in.

Jordan was widely considered the best shooter in the league from 21 feet and in from 1991 onwards, and his midrange percentages from '90-'93 as provided by PHILA are astounding. So I'm pretty sure he was just as good a shooter inside the arc.

EDIT: Jumpshot volume is due to his style change. And while it's more impressive to maintain good percentages on higher volume (at any distance), I don't think it's because he was incapable of doing so in the early 90's in this instance - he just didn't have to take as many jumpers when he was more athletic.

He was with the attempts he took, but he didn't shoot with as much volume or variety as the 2nd 3peat. You have to understand 1st 3peat Mj was a goat tier penetrator only a few ever got the basket as well. 2nd 3peat Mj still could get there but he wasnt nearly the freak he was, im sure that's why he further developed his jumper. I not arguing that he was a poor shooter by any means, just a lesser shooter than in the 2nd 3peat for the reasons mentioned. I believe that's fair.

Btw.... Iverson is much quicker than Curry, if Iverson needs two crossovers to get off a contested shot on 'old' man MJ. The slower Curry would have a hard time getting an open look on prime MJ.
