View Full Version : In their prime, pick Kobe or Duncan to take the last shot

Coin toss for me, i'd be happy with either one. Kobe can hit insane shots while Tim can get good position inside for a bankshot, he's also nailed clutch shots himself.

Duncan easily
Kobe actually is has never been a clutch shooter.
His clutch stats are an embarrassment

To take the last shot? Kobe, even though that probably defies logic. Down 3? Kobe without a second thought as Duncan doesn't really shoot threes

How many game winners does Duncan have in his career?

How many game winners does Kobe have?

Kobe has the most game winners in NBA history because he has brass balls.

Duncan has the greatest franchise in NBA history backing him.

This. I'd personally rather have Evan Turner taking the last shot over Kobe

Down by 2 - Timmy, down by 3 - Kobe.

Personally I would prefer a bunch of other players for the last shot over either of them.

duncan can barely shoot period.. everything beyond 10 feet looks a little weird

so what exactly are we relying on? a post up for the game winner with the shot clock running down?

thats never a good idea. especially when tims a poor free throw shooter and youre trying to draw contact

duncan's a stiff who, when played against a tough man-defender, will just hoist up a prayer (lakers/spurs 2004)

kobe oth has no regard for shot selection, and is one of the lowest converters of last second shots.

Last 5 minutes in a 5 point game is not what i would call "to take the last shot".

Duncan is not a go to guy in the clutch, it was always Ginobili and Parker.

So you're list is garbage.

he hit some big shots like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-Q7i1gz9ks but he always looks awkard taking those shots.

But yet, there are those who would say that Duncan is NOT clutch for missing a bunny in the last 3:16 of overtime of 2013 NBA Finals game 6. Can't have it both ways, can we? And no, it was not always Ginobili and Parker.

And why shouldn't he look awkward taking them - that was the only 3 he hit all season long. What about the shot before Fisher's 0.4? The point is that they went in - not how awkward they look.

And this doesn't include the shots that don't have videos or his clutch defensive plays. But he's NEVER been the guy for the Spurs in the clutch, right? Duncan has hit 9 more game-winning or game-tying shots than Parker in the last 10 seconds (12 more in the last 24 seconds) since they started playing together.

Post the stats

The stats have been posted - you just don't like the result or the time frame. So what's the difference between a clutch shot taken to send a game into overtime (which wouldn't count as the last 30 sec of the game) and one taken in overtime? The list I posted is over a long period of time - 12 years - it's plenty valid especially since it leaves out years when Duncan was very good and Kobe was not very good - 97-99, 2013-15.

Duncan is a total winner and about ten times more clutch than Kobe could ever dream of being, as well as 10+ spots higher on the all-time list, but to be fair he actually missed that bunny in the last minute of Game 7. Not in OT of Game 6.
