That looks about right. Along with 2009 and 2003, I'd say this is the strongest top 5 the NBA has sported post-2000.

I agree with OP's list.

It's crazy how the Thunder have two of the top five players in the game yet the Spurs/Warriors as a team are on a completely different level.

Can't underestimate team chemistry and style of play.

How about the fact they have a much better team/roster?

OP's list looking strong...

2011 was stronger, with Dirk/Bron/Wade/Howard/KD, 2005-2007 gotta be close too.

As a long-time New Orleans' fan, I've watched AD closely over these last few years. At this point, he lacks the ability to create his own offense on a consistent basis. Unless he develops that capability over time, I can't see him reaching the echelon many had hoped.

Not by much, but Lebron has another level Kawhi can't reach.

This list is just my preference of who I'd want on my team. Work ethic, defense, and intangibles are a large factor.

I did a top 10 instead of just a top 5 because I feel 2-8 is interchangeable and that it was very close to me and if I only did a top 5 I felt that I would have been leaving a few players off that are deserving. The skillset between 2-8 is just too close for me to call.

1. Lebron
2. Durant
3. Curry
4. Davis
5. Cousins
6. Westbrook
7. George
8. Griffin
9. Harden
10. Lillard

Lebron is my clear cut #1 overall. Again... 2-8 is interchangeable but I still ranked them in order to where I felt their skillset falls. Not sure where I'd rank Kawhi... Probably somewhere between 11-15.

Durant hasn't been that great this year, are you watching him? He's in the discussion for top 5, but he's not a lock this year. Just because he can make great plays at times, doesn't make up for the reality that basketball is a 48 minute sport.

Except the fact that Kawhi owned Durant head to head this year, and every time they play. I guess that means nothing though. People only care about PPG and box scores these days.

Three way tie for second place between LeBron, Leonard, and Durant.

Durant has the best per 36 minute stats out of them but he has the worst defense by a good margin. LeBron James has similar stats but better defense and impacts the game in more ways than Durant does. Leonard has the best defense by far and is still scoring well (22.8 ppg .614 TS%) but I think LeBron's playmaking edge may be slightly more valuable.

If I had to pick I would go with

1 Curry
2 LeBron
3 Leonard

Then Durant and Westbrook? These guys are pretty interchangeable but I think it's clear I would rather have Curry, LeBron, or Leonard on my team over Russell and Durant.

Honorable Mentions, Kyle Lowery, and Paul George.

So you say Durant isnt a lock for a top 5(which is right, he is a lock for top 3), but u say lowry should be in the convo for top 5? you crazy. lowry isnt even top 10, and id put him around 15-20 like the other guy said.

Edit: Lowry is avging 21/5/6 on 41% fg. Even thought i know he is a good defender at the PG and is the main drive behind the Raptors, that doesnt exactly scream top 10 player.. inefficient scorer who is an average distributor

So when you make an absurd statement like that, you kinda need to add some reasoning, even if it's bs just so you don't sound insane.Well then let's see... I'll rank top Point Guards. I'm sure most peeps on ISH would agree.

9-13

Take your pick...

Thomas
Bledsoe
Knight
Jackson
Lowery

I'd rank Lowery in the 9-13 range. Now based of stats alone there is no way he's a Top 5 PG... His stats/skills are more on par with the 9-13 crowd. I know I got Irving ranked at 8 even though he has been injured all year but in all honestly he's still better than lowery... But even if I took him off the list so what there are still at least 7 PG's better than Lowery in my opinion. I'd even go as far as saying Thomas and Bedsoe are slightly better than Lowery.

Defense. Lowery has 2.3 steals a game and plays very good defense. His field goal percentage is low because he takes a lot of 3's and free throws. Raptors also have a lot of ball movement so Lowery picks up hockey assists that don't get tallied. He is running one of the best offenses in the league and playing great defense as well. There are not 10 players playing better basketball than him right now.

You can't possibly expect me to take you seriously when you rank Rondo 3rd among point guards and rank a guy with 1 game played ahead of him.

Lowry is 5th in RPM and 3rd in WINS. 4th in VORP, 5th in BPM, 5th WS, 10th WS/48, 13th in PER, tied for 6th in minutes played....

As for his efficiency he's got a better true shooting percentage than:

Chris Paul
Eric Bledsoe
Isaiah Thomas
Damian Lillard
Brandon Knight
Reggie Jackson
John Wall
Rajon Rondo

He has a lower turnover percentage than:

Damian Lillard
Reggie Jackson
Stephen Curry

Russell Westbrook
John Wall
Rajon Rondo

But yeah, I guess I should just throw out lists and hope nobody who reads them has a clue...

5. Tough choice... I'll go with RWB.

I still think KD > RWB as it has been their entire careers, though obviously Durant is pure beta and Westbrook has more of an "it" factor. Curry is obviously playing at a ridiculous ATG level right now, but when you take GSW's out-for-blood mentality right now to go 73-9 or better, then you couple that with Curry himself seemingly gunning to repeat as MVP, and then contrast all that with LBJ's ability to coast out east in the RS... LeBron is still the best in the league even in his 13th NBA season.

Especially when the Cavs beat the Warriors this year in six games or less to take down the winningest team in NBA history.

How can people not have Curry as #1 right now? I don't get it.

Like what more would you expect the best player in the league to do? How does it get any better than this?

Individually, his numbers and performances have been unbelievable and definitely better than anyone else's.

Then on top of that, his team is 26-1. TWENTY SIX AND ONE.

He and his team are literally at the apex of individual and team basketball. If he ended the season at this pace it would go down as one of if not the greatest season of all time which sounds crazy but it's true.

Dont know about others, but for me its simple:

Individually, i consider the players overall game (defense is just as important aswell) and compare it all to others in the top 10 or top 5....

Team success, i consider what the players have to work with around them and see their actual impact in games like for example in their off nights (or when the player is not playing/being injured) how it affects the outcome.... and for the Warriors in that regard just like last year believe it or not it seems to not have noticable affect on the outcome of the game, they won all games he underperformed in... and last year they won a championship that way, with him having 0 Finals MVP votes... raises some eyebrows...

Dont know about others, but for me its simple:

Individually, i consider the players overall game (defense is just as important aswell) and compare it all to others in the top 10 or top 5....

Team success, i consider what the players have to work with around them and see their actual impact in games like for example in their off nights (or when the player is not playing/being injured) how it affects the outcome.... and for the Warriors in that regard just like last year believe it or not it seems to not have noticable affect on the outcome of the game, they won all games he underperformed in... and last year they won a championship that way, with him having 0 Finals MVP votes... raises some eyebrows...The thing is...Curry is so much ahead of anyone else offensively right now that it doesn't matter if he isn't a good defender.

Normally I would agree with you that having a better overall game is more important and have used that against him in the past but now he's just blowing everyone away on offense. Not just currently but historically.

Curry right now is #1 in...

PPG
TS%
PER
WS/48
BPM

and his team is on pace to have the best season ever.

There's nothing more you can ask from the #1 player in the league. It's the peak of individual and team play. He's clearly been the best player of these first 2 months.

As for his efficiency he's got a better true shooting percentage than:

Chris Paul
Eric Bledsoe
Isaiah Thomas
Damian Lillard
Brandon Knight
Reggie Jackson
John Wall
Rajon Rondo

No he does not... ALL 8 of those Point Guards have a HIGHER shooting percentage than Lowery. Kyle Lowery is currently ranked #27 amongst Point Guards in FG% at .411

He has a lower turnover percentage than:

Damian Lillard
Reggie Jackson
Stephen Curry
Chris Paul
Brandon Knight
Eric Bledsoe
Russell Westbrook
John Wall
Rajon Rondo

Perhaps... But every one of those players average more assists with the exception of Brandon Knight. Let's look at something far more important though... Their "Assist To Turnover Ratio"

Kyle Lowery currently ranks 27th amongst NBA Point Guards.

Rondo
Paul
Wall
Westbrook
Jackson

All have better Assist to Turnover Ratio then Lowery.

He's 13th in Assists among PG's and 6th in Scoring as well but you think he's a Top-5 player.... okay man.

Again... I have no idea how you come up with him being a top-5 overall player in the NBA when statistically he isn't even a top-5 Point Guard in the NBA. The only thing he ranks #1 in amongst all Point Guards is committing Personal Fouls and getting called for Technical Fouls.

I'd still take... Curry, Paul, Westbrook, Lillard, Rondo, Thomas or Bledsoe over Lowery.

Bold, yes he does. Go look it up, what possible reason would I have to lie about a stat that takes 3 seconds to look up and confirm?

As for the rest, again just go look at the impact he has when he's on the court. The advanced stats back up what I'm saying. Just watching his team with him and without him confirms the stats aren't crazy. That team is simply trash without him.

But yeah, lets ignore every advanced stat in favor of assist to turnover ratio....

Can you read? He clearly said true shooting percentage...As a matter of fact... Yes. I suffer from Presbyopia. I have extreme difficulty read small text... as is the case of me reading the forum on my small dimly lit iPhone. The auto brightness on my phone is quite sporadic. This creates some rather unfortunate problems for me when reading the forums.

But let me just clarify again that Lowery isn't a top-5 player not is he a top-5 PG... But I do think he is a very good player!

Okay just looked it up sir and Paul and Thomas have the same exact TS% as Lowery. Perhaps I was ready your post wrong with my less than stellar vision but didn't you post that he had better True Shooting then those 2? Or perhaps you made a mistake by including them?

Btw... Bledsoe is 1% below lowery and Lillard and Knight are %2 below and 3%

What "advanced stats" am I ignoring? True Shooting is all you presented for your argument. I only posted about Assist To Turnover because you made a point to say that Lowery has less turnovers and I merely pointed out the fact his turnover to assist ratio wasn't as good as the other. You still have yet to make a case why he's a top-5 player.... Or even top-5 PG.

I admit he's a good player but not Top-5

Besides you quoted my post first seeming all shocked that I did not include him in my top-5

Get over it dude... I posted my reasons as to why he is NOT a top-5 player and you are yet to prove why he is.

This was my first post in response to you.

But yeah, I guess I should just throw out lists and hope nobody who reads them has a clue...

Now if since that day a few players moved up or down on TS% so be it. I took the values as of when I posted, and I never stated he was much better or worse than any of those guys. I just shorted the data by TS% and posted those below him.

I brought him up because he's an interesting borderline case for the top 5 and worthy of discussion. I'm fine to leave him off the top 5, but none the less with the advanced stats above, he has to be on one's radar or you need a strong reason why so many metrics think so highly of him, yet he isn't worthy. Instead your argument is that you somehow are better at interpreting box score stats than all the well tested and useful models listed above. If you have an issue with how he plays and feel he's getting stats without really adding the value they imply, that's a great reason to move him off the list. I unfortunately have only seen him in some of his better games this year, such as against the warriors where he unquestionably looked to me like a top 5 guy.

Now that said ranking him barely as a top 10 point guard and doing so on stats is just absurd.
