Yeah it felt rushed but it was decent movie better than episode 1 and 2. It just happens to be grouped with the other two movies.

It is a really shit movie that combined all of the shit things in Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones in to one movie.
It had a few good scenes. Order 66 and the Opera House are IMO good scenes. The rest of the film was garbage. It was disappointing because you can tell how it could have been an awesome epic movie if someone else wrote and directed it.
The romance scenes between Anakin and Padme are as bad as anything in Attack of the Clones and in many places they are worse.
Lucas is good at coming up with cool stories but bad at executing them.
When it came out Revenge of Sith got a lot of hype as "the best of the prequels." In actuality it is just as awful as Attack of the Clones.
The Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels and TPM isn't very good.

Well your in the minority most people think episode 3 is the best out of the prequels. Obi-Wan's final duel with Anakin/Vader is probably the best saber duel in the whole star wars saga.

No way. That final fight was like watching someone play Star Wars the videogame on Playstation 3.
That fight does not hold up. It is ridiculous and too over the top.
The best saber fights in all of Star Wars are probably the Darth Maul fight, and the fight at the end of The Force Awakens.
In terms of build up and emotions, the best fights are in Empire and Return of the Jedi.
Try watching Revenge of the Sith again. You won't enjoy it.

it's shit but when compared to two pieces of garbage trash it makes it look better than it really is.
although, it does have much better dialogue than episode ii, but still very at parts. acting is also better, namely ewan mcgregor and ian mcdiarmaid's.
Some of the dialogue is better. The Anakin/Padme scenes are even worse than they were in attack of the clones.
What the **** was Obi Wan doing with that lizard on that desert planet for 1 and a half hours? This movie was just shit all around.
Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels. Padme/Anakin romance is worse and more cringe than Jar Jar.

One of the things that I think hurt the entire prequel trilogy: everyone who saw the OT already knew how it was going to end. I think as an actor...as a storyteller...I'd be less inclined to give a shit if I knew going into it that my entire audience already knows the end of my story.
I saw all three in theaters and the only moment I can remember an entire audience of people having a true outward reaction to what they were seeing on screen was the end of II when Yoda throws down with Dooku. Everyone walked out of the theater saying "What the...Yoda can do THAT?! Awesome!" And even then because George Lucas is such a boner at crafting his story, he cheapened what should have been THE duel of the series when Yoda fights Palpatine. These are the two unquestionably strongest users of the Force trying to kill each other...THIS is what I paid to see! Instead it became "Yeah, I saw Yoda flip around and Force-throw huge shit last movie against Saruman..."

It had Qui Gon and Darth Maul.
Qui Gon wasn't the most awesome character but Liam Nieson made him cool.
Anakin wasn't in the movie enough to ruin it. Grown up Anakin was the "hero" of the next two movies and they sucked because of it.

All of the prequels despite their faults were more entertaining and authentic than
Disney's Fan Service: The Movie
outbreak

phantom menace had some of the best scenes of the prequels and also some of the worst. the story and shit they put in it makes it my second best of the prequels. I'd go 3>1>2. 2 last because some of the dialogue is just flat out terrible and shouldn't have made it in to such a big movie.

yoda getting in lightsaber duels killed his character. seriously.
everything that's good about him in the OT is ruined with the weird flippy shit he does in the PT. pure fan service, and im not surprised people loved it at the time.
Well he was the Grand Master for a reason. Plus he's like two feet how do you think his fighting style would look like.

As much shit as some of you are giving Attack of the Clones the Clone Army plot and reveal in Attack of the Clones and the Jango / Obi-wan fight was one of the best set pieces and reveals in my opinion in the prequels, and felt way more star wars than any scene in Walt Disney's force fan service awakens. George Lucas delivered more than force awakens did as far as telling a star wars story in the star wars universe... he's the guy who invented it all. It isn't about you crybaby fans. It never has been. It's about the story he had in his mind that he wanted to tell.

In the theater the casuals loved it. I remember it was the only part in any of the prequels that the audience I was in the theater with reacted to.

your trolling

The tone, the mystery, the pacing, and the visuals of the Attack of the Clones Kamino scenes where the clone army is revealed could have fit right into Empire Strikes Back as far as star warsy epic/fantasy set piece / feel is concerned. It matched much of the tone from the Cloud City set piece of ESB.
I'm not saying the rest of the movie is without many faults (the love scenes and Naboo set pieces are GOD AWFUL). But the Kamino scenes, watch them again. They feel as star wars as any scene from any movie. I didn't feel like anything from the force awakens felt so convincing. Only a few short clips when they are sneaking around in the third (jesus I hate even saying that) death star felt authentic star wars in that whole movie.

I remember back in 2013 before Disney bought star wars there were thinking about making a Yoda movie. That would have been weird seeing a younger looking Yoda.

Indeed, it is the best of the prequels. Thought that way back in 2005 and I haven't changed mind about it today. To me, it's not that far away or perhaps even equal to Return of the Jedi.
Yes, Phantom is a lot better than I remember it too but that's probably because of things already mentioned, including the Pod racing and lightsaber duel (still the best in the series IMO). I've said it in the other thread, Maul should have just been the main villain for the 3 series. Not only was he more interesting than Dooku and Grevious but he would have had another sub plot in Obi Wan chasing after him. During Sith, he would just be killed by either Obi Wan or perhaps even Anakin, where he falls into the Dark Side even more.
The overall dark tone of Sith interests me more. Off course the fight at the end is great, I just can't agree with people saying it's over the top. Honestly, it's Star Wars. We've seen far more ridiculous things and that fight was enjoyable and I know most at the time thought it was contender for best fight in a movie scene.
Rewatching Attack of the Clones, yeah, clearly the worst outside of it's Spinoff Clone Wars... they just never got that part of the saga right.

Complete opposite reaction for me. I was at opening night and hardcore Star Wars nerds straight up hooted and hollered with glee when he Forced that light saber off of his belt.

Everyone liked it when it was happening. i thought I liked it too. Then I thought about it later and realized it ruined the character of Yoda from the original movies.
darth vader's nooooooo at the end of episode 3 was whack af

I loved the movie because it concludes a story line we rarely see in sci-fi over 3 long movies. How often is a sci-fi trilogy centered around a tragic hero? I'm sure everyone and myself came into the movie knowing full well that Anakin would turn into Vader, but the process was still very moving to watch. The way how he really tries to do the right thing and mind the wisdom that was bestowed on him, but is deceived and used through his vulnerabilities. How he turns on the jedi (I hated that children scene), loses his final fight and getting horrifically mutilated. Then he loses Padme which leaves him no choice but to dedicate the rest of his life to basically being a slave to the emperor... damn, I felt genuinely sorry for him at the end of the film.
Even though the prequels in general were poorly produced and had a lot of flaws, at least the story line sets up the next trilogy beautifully because it feels even more meaningful when he finally redeems himself in return of the jedi.

That's why I hate the prequels more than other shit movies that are worse then it.
THERE IS AN AMAZING STORY WITH SO MUCH DEPTH AND ROOM FOR POTENTIAL BEING TOLD.
THEY GOT AN AMAZING CAST TO PLAY THE LEAD ROLES.
THERE ARE ALL THESE AWSOME CHARACTERS AND IDEAS SET UP. IF THEY WERE WRITTEN BY SOME ONE BETTER, AND DIRECTED BY SOMEONE BETTER THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL TIME CLASSIC MOVIES.
There is a lot there but they f*cked it up so badly in every way, that's why I hate these prequel movies more than any other movie.
