Has legit become one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. Guys like LeBron and KD should take note, tbh.

That's what I like about him this year. He's actually trying. I appreciate that.

He's noticeably stepped up his defense this year.

I think having Porzingis in there defending the rim helps a lot too, just as Kawhi's defense is greatly helped by having Duncan behind him.

Last year he was cruising because his team suck so bad he didn't want to get a bad injury for no reason.

Does he check the other team's best scorer nowadays ?

Porzingis' length really helps. The Knicks are essentially able to double team on every possession because he can reach hashmark to hashmark.

Porzingis and Lopez on the team is what has "improved" Melo's defense. His own effort is only 25% of it. That being said the shot chart is very impressive.

who woulda thought having actual defenders instead of guys like amare and bargs means that melo can focus on what he is supposed to defensively.

they're great rim protectors. I think knicks might have the best bigs on defense. how can you drive in the paint with 2 7+ footers right there to knock your shot away.

The Renaissance of Carmelo Anthony

That's what I would like to know, especially if one is doing a comparison. Guarding a 10ppg, 43.1 fg% player to 38.3 % shooting is not as impressive as holding a 25ppg, 49.5 fg% scorer to 41% shooting.

wow didn't know those 7 footers were helping Melo contest three pointers :oldlol: :oldlol:

[QUOTE]
As far back as the preseason, Anthony has been sprinting at dangerous shooters on the perimeter, something he hardly ever did last season. As a result, he has contested almost as many 3-pointers (17) this year as he did in 40 games last year (18).

And it seems to be working.[B] Opposing shooters are making just 23.8% of their 3-pointers when Anthony is the closest defender to the play, according to SportVU player-tracking technology. That

I won't particularly question the fact that Melo has actually made more of a concerted effort defensively this season neither his effectiveness, but having 7 foot rim protectors does affect a perimeter player's ability to challenge the three point line. Knowing you have a second line of defense behind you allows you to play closer to the scorer without having to worry about him driving by you and scoring.

Hook shoot, pump fake, drawing them outside paint with stretch 4s, getting them to foul.
