The vast majority of left wing voters in America vote for Democrats because they believe it's a rejection of bigotry. Young people declare themselves liberals as a rejection of bigotry. Minorities embrace the political left as a rejection of bigotry. Few of them pay attention to any of the other issues. Reject bigotry, and you have their vote.
And boy is that dangerous.
Because MOST VOTERS only pick their affiliation based on something like that. If a politician says "Hey. I'm cool with gays. Aint no need to h8." You get hordes of liberal voters put him in office and then go back to their regular business and not pay attention. That's pretty scary.
THIS is how we all get screwed. Because the voters only take sides on the most shallow, inconsequential, and SIMPLE issues. While everything nefarious that happens behind the political scenes, garners very little interest.
Just take a side on a social issue and the masses trust you.
"I hate gays" or "I love gays."
"I dont want black people around" or "Black people need us all to be their special caretakers."
And it becomes this ridiculous bickerfest about whether liberals are justified forcing their views on others. Because most conservatives seem happy to do things their way, in their states. Obviously there are individuals who go rogue and attack planned parenthoods in places they don't live etc. But liberals systematically try to 'rescue the south from itself' by invoking the federal government to make everyone do things the liberal way, in all states. And this is more important to them than dissecting the real complicated issues. As long as they win the battle of armchair morals, they're cool. That's the prize they're looking for. "Was I justified in picking the blue team? Am I validated? Did I win?"
And there is so much government exploitation due to the "pick your side and fight" tendencies of the public. We give politicians way too much power based on their stances on a social issue or two. It's ridiculous.
