Is it a crime to drive a police car?

My friend and I were at Tim Horton's today and he owed me $50. A cop was having breakfast and left his keys on the table to go to the bathroom. I told my friend that I'd clear his debt if he drove the cop car to my house and let me ride shotgun. Long story short, we are facing charges. Is this really a crime?? What should I do?

I dont think its a crime as long as you didnt go through peoples files or reach in the trunk for the guns.

Actually I tried to give him $50. He laughed so I thought it wasnt enough, so we upped it to $100 and he fuking arrested us. :confusedshrug:
