out of all the players in the league, Barea is the on who fascinates me the most. He probably isn't even a full 5'10 barefooted, if you looked at him in isolation you would never think he would be a pro athlete not to mention a player who has won on the biggest stage in basketball. When you watch him play though you realize why he is there, deceptively strong built man that is very fast and posses's other wordly coordination. Its weird to think this guy could show up at any street court in the world and dominate yet when you consider what happened when he was demoted to D league in 2006 its obviously true.

no, because nothing about him exactly screams 'athletic' or strong. His wingspan looks tiny, to be honest he doesn't look athletic in anyway even though he clearly is. I did used to question why Isiah is in the league tbh, I made a thread asking why Isiah is more successful than N.Robinson and I was told about his 40 inch vertical and it quickly became apparant that he is both skillful, an athletic freak and a has higher bball iq than a potato hence being more respected than Nate.

I remember watching him playing for Puerto Rico against Argentina and I was stunned how much better he looked live, as the alpha guy for his team. He was much quicker and explosive in person and he had great hops. When he plays for the Mavs, on TV at least, he doesn't showcase half of the hops he actually has.

He really looks short and not that athletic in this picture, I really thought he is more in the 5-11 range.
I believe he is another Rick Carlisle type of player (read the stories about how he scouts non-star players before he goes after them. I read a story about how met with a new player in his first day in Dallas and told him he watched his last 100 hr of playing or something like that).
Players who fit his system must primarily be extreme hardworking while possessing high bball IQ. Barea has both traits.

Ehh , true but Carlisle offence make comfortable players on the court . And They aren't going to hard or tough ways , they are playing together with great ball movement in Carlisle offence . Of course , Dirk giving great spacing advantage to his teammates . And that make his teammates better .
